I just purchased a new BC125AT and every thing works except when I plug a external speaker in the volume drops to almost no sound.

That's an earphone jack not intended to be used as a speaker jack. What speaker are you trying to use and what is the ohms (impedance)?

When I owned this unit, I connected the earphone jack to the auxiliary input on my 2018 Subaru Forester and it was very loud and clear coming through my SUV's audio system. All these handhelds have very low audio. I never tried an external speaker on a handheld. Imonitor is asking you a IMPORTANT question here marklyr.

Same here, I am using UBC126AT all the time in Nissan Maxima via AUX input, radio loud and clear. Not so sure about connecting external speaker to battery powered radio, amplified maybe?

The impedance of the speaker is four ohms. I've used a external speaker on my other two hand held(all be it much older models). How do I determine witch wires from a usb chord for input. Thanks to all of you your help. This is only my second time using a forum.

4 ohms is way too low. If you can find a small speaker around with an impedence of 32 ohms it may work but it will be similar in volume to what's already inside the scanner. Try plugging in some amplified computer speakers.

You can purchase a "HIGH QUALITY" speaker microphone from Scanner Master. They are expensive but that is the ONLY answer to you situation.
Hope this helps you

Thanks Imonitor and Bob1955. I bought a cable with two mini male plugs and connected the radio to my truck via the radio input jack as suggested and it works great. Thanks again to all of you.
