I was told today from a RS.Mgr. that he will have a new digital scanner in October. in the store. I hope so. He sound sure.

It's gotta be the new GRE models - but, I didn't think they we're going to offer them.

Depends on the store. A 'factory owned' RS generally doesn't have anything that isn't sold from the RS catalog, but the 'Franchise' stores (assuming they still exist) were allowed to stock other items, such as, say, Uniden scanners, themselves.

A Franchise store could well carry the new GRE units.

Was this a privately owned, or regular chain store?

The privately owned stores are just that. They carry some, if not all RS products. They also carry other merchandise ie automotive products, electric products, other radio related products by other manufacturers, etc.. Someone here probably has a better handle on this, but this has been my experience. The store local to me years ago had the above mentioned setup.
