A close lightning strike fried my old setup which was a D-130J up about 15' with 35' of LMR400 right beside my house with a metal roof (not grounded but new setup will be). I got good signal except with some of the county first responders. I was thinking of getting 2 10' fence rails and attaching that to the side of an outbuilding around 30' from my house. Would this be a better setup since it’s far away from the metal roof and 5' higher even though I will have to use 15’ more cable? I was also wondering if I should go with the same antenna or go with the OmniX?
