Hi all,

Picking up a fairly good signal strength system from downtown Manhattan yesterday:

Control Channel: 852.4125
System ID: 833
WACN: 92071
RFSS 3
Site 3

No voice traffic heard during the three minute I was monitoring the control channel.

A quick license search reveals it is Essex County NJ WNWC455

Interesting...I thought they were planning on staying with NJICS and not building out their own system?

Those frequencies have been on the air for years in Essex County .. the EDACS system... Analog....the system is currently up and being used for Corrections Public Works and Sheriff. What makes you think it is p25?

If that’s what CqDx is decoding off the control channel, that is not EDACS. So, if those frequencies were previously assigned to their EDACS system, it appears from what is being posted here that is if being replaced by a P25 system. Based upon the WACN, looks like a Harris system.

Understood. I put it into my sds100 but I'm too far to get a signal down here in Basking Ridge. Time for a database update?

Thinking this might be the first real Essex County County Wide trunking system that they will use for Sheriff's Department County prosecutor's office and other County functions... Possibly using encryption where necessary. Please keep us up-to-date as to activity

From my source, Essex County is building out a P25 trunked system. Additionally, City of Newark is ALSO building out their own system. Newark PD will go to this system and “allegedly” Newark Fire will leave NJICS come over as well.

What’s interesting is they both have sites going up on Eagle Rock. One would think that they could combine resources and build out one giant system and get some buy in from other agencies in Essex currently on NJICS, and tie into the State core for roaming and interoperability like Union County did. Makes me scratch my head as usual with NJ.

Just one more note, when I searched the EDACS frequencies for the Essex Co. system as listed on the DB, I cannot find the EDACS channel anymore.

That being said, it was Thursday late afternoon so may be there was not much activity on the system.

I was surprised Essex County Sheriff have been on the conventional 800 system for so long, I would have think they would be the first to migrate to NJICS but obviously there are other plans in place.

From the FCC DB it looks like City of Newark PD won't be migrating to trunking until 2020-2021, but then again, I wouldn't hold my breath. (just like the Hudson County 700/800 system that should have been migrating users by...now?)

The Eagle Rock site gets out really good so you should be able to hear it all over the place.

The EDACS system has been pretty low traffic for years. The SO 800 conventional repeaters (particularly Ch 5 for Patrol) is relatively busy and comes off that same tower.

An EDACS control channel broadcasts 24/7 regardless of how much or little activity is on the system, and it's most certainly not encrypted. In other words, if you're no longer picking up an EDACS control channel on any of the licensed frequencies, that's a significant development that requires more investigation.

the database now lists this system, but only shows 852.4125. Havent the other freqs also been confirmed as part of this system and should be listed ? 852.412 MHz, 852.687 MHz, 852.600 MHz, 853.237 MHz, 853.850 MHz, also says the city of newark will join this system, which is incorrect , I thought the City of Newark is building their own 700/800 system.

The town of West Orange is on a very old EDACS system. I wonder if there is any chance they could join the new Essex County system at some point.

That would be terrific and I would think other towns as well would want to jump on this.
