I have been trying to contact Uniden Technical Support since this past Monday via 1.800.297.1023 which is listed on Uniden's 'contact us' page. I continually received a message stating that I needed to call during normal business hours even though all of my calls were made in the middle of the workday. Finally today my call was answered by a young lady who told me to call 1-800-620-7531 for scanner related matters (HP-1). I called the number which rang for nearly five minutes before I received a 'this number is not currently in service' message. I called back 1.800.297.1023 and told a different young lady what had occurred. She checked the number and then told me that the company had moved and were having phone system problems that hopefully will be corrected by next week. She confirmed that 1-800-620-7531 will be the number to call for scanner technical support. In the meantime ...

In the meantime, post your question in this forum. The Uniden product manager for their scanner line reads this forum pretty much daily.

A couple of months ago I purchased an HP-1 for the sole purpose of monitoring Manatee County, Florida Fire / EMS. On May 6th the county apparently made some changes to their system which resulted in the HP-1 no longer receiving Manatee County, Florida Fire / EMS at all. I contacted Uniden via e-mail and received a response advising me to download the latest update on the next Sunday. I did so and now I receive the simulcast dispatching of Fire / EMS calls on the old VHF frequency but nothing else after the initial dispatch. My question to Uniden is, will the data base be updated to enable the HP-1 to receive Manatee County, Florida Fire / EMS once again in its entirety or am I stuck with a $500.00 radio that serves me no purpose?

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this matter.

A couple of thoughts:

1. It looks like there were some updates made to the Manatee County Public Services system in the RR database just yesterday. You may want to update the database in your HP-1 next week to see if the latest changes help your situation.

2. If you have a problem receiving a specific system, I'm sure Paul will be glad to help, but don't expect him to know all the details of every trunked radio system in the country. In other words, you may get more help by asking your question in the Florida forum, if you haven't already, where others who may be familiar with the system can give focused advice.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Something to remember about radios like the HP-1 is that they are only as good as the data the RRDB contains and unless you bought the extreme upgrade you can't search the system for new talkgroups. If you have another radio (or know someone who does) that can search for new talkgroups you can submit them to the DB here and then, once the DB is updated with the new TGID's (or freq's or LCN or whatever else they changed) then like magic that following Sunday the data will make it's way into your HP-1.

I love the idea of the HP-1 but for my money the new 996 or 396 is probably a better use of $500 because you can compensate for things like this WITHOUT having to wait on the RRDB to be updated.

At any rate, calling Tech Support really won't help you in this situation anyway because they have no control over the data in the RRDB either.

Incorrect. You can add a system to a Favorites list and enable ID Search to find new talkgroups. The Extreme upgrade has never been required for that.

The HP-1 database updates are released on Monday, not Sunday.

See above.

You can do pretty much whatever you want using a Favorites list, without the Extreme upgrade, and without waiting for the RRDB to be updated.

I thought manatee came in okay when I passed through two weekends ago with an xt. Hp-1 should pick it up too bit I don't have one of those.

At work we found that our employees and customers would get dinged out of voicemail and hung up on if they didn't have the company phone carrier for their cell phones. So when I switched to a landline I finally got through to support after the cell phone calls got dinged out. May Uniden had the same issue. These were informal conclusions.

Somebody with an Hp-1 might be able to help you.

Thank you to all who responded to my post. It sounds like there may be a way to add the changes to the HP-1 without waiting for Sentinel to be updated. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know the first thing as to how to go about it. I hope the next update corrects my problem.

When you are in Sentinel, click on "help" from the tool bar, then "contents", then "favorites lists".... all you need to know to program the HP1 without using the auto-update service is right there.

You can create a favorites list and put anything you want into it, and then scan just that list or scan the main database along with your new favorites list.
