Should be hearing a new numbering system for all the North Zone units starting this morning. For the most part the ID's are being shortened to 3 digits with some exceptions (staff, etc).

Example...Engine 1211 is now Engine 121. Medic 1291 is now RA121.

Carlsbad - Stations 101-106
North County - Stations 111-116
Vista - Stations 121-126
Escondido - Stations 131-137
San Marcos - Stations 141-144
Pala - Station 151
Valley Center - Stations 161-162
San Pasqual Res. - Station 171
Rincon Res - Station 181
Pauma Res - Station 191
Oceanside - Stations 211-218
Coastal - Stations 231-238 (Solana Beach is 237, Del Mar is 238)
Rancho Santa Fe - Stations 261-266
Camp Pendleton - 270-279, 288

Thanks so much for posting this! I figured there had been a change when all the unit numbers sounded weird today. A few weeks ago I saw a San Marcos engine with "141" on the side and thought whoever painted it left off a digit!

The new numbers must have confused PulsePoint, because Northcomm is down on PP.

You're right about North Comm. Escondido is up with the new numbering.

Anyone know why the numbering was changed? I think its more confusing or maybe I'm just so used to the old scheme.

Good afternoon,

Starting at the San Diego County (CA)#San Diego County Fire Dept's Wiki page...

...the following were updated...
...
Carlsbad - Stations 101-106
North County - Stations 111-116
Vista - Stations 121-126
Escondido - Stations 131-137
San Marcos - Stations 141-144
Pala - Station 151
...
San Pasqual Res. - Station 171
...
Pauma Res - Station 191
Oceanside - Stations 211-218
Coastal - Stations 231-238 (Solana Beach is 237, Del Mar is 238)
Rancho Santa Fe - Stations 261-266
Camp Pendleton - 270-279, 288

...but the following were not, because I did not see a clearly matching page, and did not want to guess incorrectly...
...
Valley Center - Stations 161-162
...
Rincon Res - Station 181
...

Someone else can start at the Wiki page linked above and edit the related Wiki pages accordingly, or list here which Wiki page matches which station, and I will try to update it later.

Hope this helps,

https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/San_Diego_County_(CA)_Fire_Auth.

Scrolling down the page on the above link, might someone also update the station designations for Valley Center, please?

Station 72 is now Station 1

Station 73 is now Station 2

Station 71 on Vesper remains unchanged.

Merci beaucoup!

Northcom had a big systems upgrade, My friend who dispatches there said it is a nightmare. New cad and other things are shaking up the place.

All North Zone fire departments have agreed to change their apparatus numbering system to align with an overall county-wide numbering system.
The purpose behind this change is to implement a designator system that helps eliminate confusion and errors for departments in the zone/county with similar unit designators. Our Fire Department will be switching over to the new numbering system on August 1, 2017 at 10:00 hours.

Why

You're right about North Comm. Escondido is up with the new numbering.

Anyone know why the numbering was changed? I think its more confusing or maybe I'm just so used to the old scheme.

Usual reason for this kind of thing is a SUIT with a degree in an office, who has NEVER worked in the field, thinks it makes sense, and no one higher up in the organization is willing to say NO!!

Does anyone know what are the differences in the truck names? For example, engine, truck, battalion...
I assume RA means Rescue Ambulance.
Can a station have two of the same trucks? For example, can there be two engines for one station?
I'm trying to make sense of the new numbering system.
