• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I started getting popups on quite a few aviation sites that ask for a username and password. I've never seen these popups before. What is causing this?

Here's one site that's affected, with this popup wording:
"http://airportwebcams.net is requesting your username and password. The site says: “Access Restricted (pwrestrict)”>

We are a radio site not an IT site. Not to be rude, but all we can do is guess on this kind of thing. Here is a educated guess for you though: It is called security. The sites wish more security and control over access of their data hence requirements of ACTUAL MEMBERSHIP! Heck, we do it here for access to full features such as abilities to download from our DB to your scanner directly via your programming software. Though we do charge a small fee that is very much worth it.

Some of the sites affected have webcams with ATC audio. I never had to sign in on these sites before. Problem is you can't join the site because all you get is the popup, and if you close it out it just says access denied.
