i have from my friend who works for roy pd that they are planing on using full enc
when they get new radios. some in that dept went to a training semiar in st george utah last week on how to use the new radios we might be lock out. like denver metro pd
they have enc turn on full time only hear fire calls nothing else. i go to denver every day
also it could be the whole wasatch front or on a dept by dept bases. just my thought,
from what i have been told, can not name names

A long time ago, I lived in a community that went full encryption. I am still amazed at how quickly the crime rate went to zero, once there was no accountability from the evil citizens.

Sad. I’m hoping that the public safety agencies can land on a balanced approach that offers the citizens some level of transparency and involvement, and, also provides needed security for sensitive operations.

To my knowledge the "switch" will be the choice of the departments, the odds of all of them actually flipping that switch is low however due to radios having the need for hardware encryption which is a nice chunk of change to upgrade radios that do not already have capabilities. Most departments currently only issue ENC capable devices to specialized units like SWAT for closed coms on scene of a critical incident.

In a system like UCAN this could be problematic. When you start having to think about interoperability with other departments and agencies encryption can become a huge headache. Ensuring that everyone has the capability, correct keys, good connection, and other factors can make encryption; especially on a shared system challenging, and even dangerous for users. Encryption for specific TGs and units (SWAT, NARC, etc.) makes sense but anything that needs the ability for multiagency needs to be useable by everyone on the system.

That all being said as an example; What happens if Roy has a pursuit or major incident that requires other agencies. If they link Regional does that clear the encryption? Will the other agencies have to use encryption? Will Roy have to actually switch to Regional to not use the encrypted dispatch TG.

Definitely, something to keep an ear on but I wouldn't be selling your scanners just yet...

Again I will say each county will have the OPTION to encrypt, many of the counties across the state have a single Ø TG as it is for SWAT/SpecOps as it is. All statewide traffic (Events, Regional’s, etc.) will remain in the clear as it currently is on the analog system. Encryption will be used in the new system but the extent has yet to be fully disclosed as the system is still a few years from full cut over.

Sorry, but Personally, I'll leave the "I heard it from my neighbor's cousin's mailman's .....yada yada" hearsay alone.
When something actually happens, is when you'll gain my attention.

This isn't pointed at anyone specific, but I've seen it way too many times on this forum.

To each their own.
