New Scanner, Problems in Winston-Salem

Hey guys Im new to scanning. First off I bought myself a Pro-95, and couldn't hear the local police and figured it was due to rebanding. So today I just received my uniden bc246t in the mail. It has the latest firmware, and I still cant scan them. (http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=1682) I tune into the control channel, and I hear gibberish. I'm now afraid I'm going to have to get a digital scanner... I just noticed up top for winston-salem it says "Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface". I know apco is digital, but it also says analog. Is there any scanners that live around Forsyth County that can confirm this? Am I going to have to sell my scanners and get a $500 digital one?

Winston-Salem

Almost everything on the system is digital. There is one County Fire combat channel that is analog and the EMS to Forsyth Memorial and NCBH talkgroups are analog.

560-BAPT PEDS (Baptist Hospital - Peds Call Channel - Regular)
33744-FMC MD (Forsyth Medical Center - MD - ALS)
33808-BAPT MD (Baptist Hospital - MD - ALS)
33872-PEDS MD (Peds - Baptist - MD - ALS)

All other channels on the WS/FC Trunked Radio System are DIGITAL

As others have confirmed most of what you are wanting to monitor is Digital...and the 2 radios you have mentioned (pro 95 & 246t) are analog only...so the answer to your question is yes...you will need to upgrade to a digital radio (Radio Shack Pro96 or Uniden 396T) to be able to monitor the digital talkgroups...
