• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

New to Motorola and having trouble.

I'm a retired Deputy and have used Motorola radios for a while. I'm also a Ham radio operator and understand some programming. I have 2 XPR7550e and have successfully programmed them with CPS 16. I have a Motorola Bus acct and have down loaded CPS 2.157.149.0 and am trying to read my Motorola XPR 7350. I get an error while reading this radio as well as my 7550e's. I have several "Subscriptions" in my acct, but I'm not sure what I need or how to use them. I was hoping I could program my 7350 with CPS 2 (because of the firmware) but I'm struggling. Any help for a newbie would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dave

We are going to need to know what the SPECIFIC error you are getting.

We also need to know what firmware version the radios have.

with out that info, we are going to be grasping at straws trying to help you.

Are you using an OEM Cable? Additionally, how do you know the 7350 is newer firmware?

I am not using an OEM Cable... It read my 7550e's just fine with CPS 16 and an older version of CPS 2. AND... read the 7350 with the older version of CPS 2, before I upgraded with my new Motorola Acct.

OEM Cable ordered. Please don't yell at me... I got the 7550e's up far enough to use the Network to finish up the programming with CPS 16... I was hoping to get to the same place, even with a cheaper cable.

If you're using an after-market cable from BlueMax 49ers, I doubt that your problem is with the cable.

If you haven't already, check in Device Manager and see if the USB connection/cable is being recognized by the computer.

I am able to read/write to my XPR7550e with no problem using CPS 2.0 and a BlueMax 49er cable and with my Windows 11 computer.

I know probably 10 guys using his cables and I have one myself, and have never had a problem using his cables even on an XPR 6580 IS (the Canadian version) and they've always worked fine. We've done most of the XPR HT's using them at ham fests doing programming and never had an issue on any of the radios we've done.

I've had this error on some older firmware XPR 4580s, I simply went back to the older CPS for my usage. I only program for myself and buddies on the ham radio so having the most up to date stuff isn't always needed in this case. If this is a commercial use case, then you'll need to take action that is appropriate for your use case.

Is it even possible to program a 6580/4580 with 902/927 ham freq’s with CPS2? I’ve been told no, which is one reason I stick with the legacy CPS.

Yes. As long as the firmware is new enough in the 4580/6580s. A group of us do it all the time, we stopped using 16 for the 900 stuff a couple years ago now. Same with 7580's and 5580's.

I re-installed CPS 2 and was able to read the radio with no trouble. Firmware Ver - R02.21.01.000. When I setup a few channels, etc and try to write, I get this error: [#1003840] Validations failed. Please see Validation Results for details.
I noticed under the "Contacts" branch, the word Contacts is in red, indicating there might be something wrong.... I've looked and can't find anything. New OEM cable arriving Monday...

Sounds like you created a digi channel and did not create a corresponding contact/talkgroup entry. Add one then associate all digi channels to that and you should be able to write the radio.

BUT......your chances of it communicating with another radio or repeater are slim and none.

Or, there is a digi channel by mistake, and deleting it should get the error fixed.
