• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Good afternoon everyone,
I just got 2 XPR 7550e UHF radios for work. I'm just starting out with these kinds or radios so I'm playing catch up educating myself with all the features that this radio has. Right now the dealer I purchased the radios from is going to program them for me with just the basic freq, eventually I want to do my own programing, so that would lead to my first question.
While I'm waiting for the radios to come in where can I get the programing software for them, does it have to be directly from Motorola?

To be honest at least initially, the programming that i'm looking to do is pretty basic programming. Eventually I would really like to use these radios for HAM purposes and program in local repeaters etc, etc...I live in S. Florida so being able to have this radio as an emergency backup hand held would be a big plus. If you guys know of any clubs or groups down here, that would be great info as well. Anything that can eventually help me be an asset to the community, would be good.

Any help or info would be very helpful.

Thank you gents and gals

If these radios are used at your work on a trunking system there is a good chance that they are password protected as well as a valid RAS key must be entered every time you re-write the radio to be able to continue to function on the trunking network. If not doing trunking at work your good to go programming them on your own for just conventional things, the MotoTRBO CPS can be had in many places in the wild but believe it or not there is a larger community of hams that prefer commercial /\/\ gear than you would imagine they just keep their mouths shut ;). There is truly no suffice to the quality and build of a commercial gear vs. amateur gear.

On the other hand the XPR series radios are extremely capable units with many, many options I promise you will never use. They are solid analog radios and only the best DMR transceiver. Your dealer should be able to sell you a licensed copy of the software or legally purchase it from MOL online through a authorized account. MotoTRBO CPS is not that expensive and is not considered a mission critical protocol so its easier to get your hands on.

Florida has its own DMR network page DMR-FL check out Florida Repeater Talk Groups and there are Brandmeister, DMR-MARC, and other various amateur radio DMR linked systems you can have access to with your 7550.

hey rightbatwing,
thank you for the reply. At this time I'm just using the radio in analog. I got my hands on the software and started proggraming it myself as best as I can. My next move is to go out and meet some other commo guys and learn as much as I can from them. I'm sure there's a lot of good info to be had about how to maximize these radios.

Again thanks for the reply I'm keep my ear to the grindstone for info here.
