Just got in a new Watkins Johnson WJ-8618 (S1) VHF/UHF receiver. This is one of the best WJ's I have picked up. Loaded with all the good IF's. (6.4,10,20,50,100,300). Unit covers 20-1100Mhz all mode. All kinds of options in this one. The unit is also EMP hardened. The 6.4Khz IF bandwidth is great, I only had a 20Khz filter in the 8617 I had. I love the great AM mode audio of the WJ's, makes all the milair stuff sound like you are in the cockpit. Here are a few photos: Sorry about the crappy Iphone pics

Rack of Toys :0(

Wish I still had access to THIS rack of my Spook toys (1967) - Yep that's ME twiddlin' the knobs looking for correlative data.  :D

Very nice

Very nice receiver. Can I ask where you got it? I have been thinking about getting some professional receivers for HF and V/UHF but whenever I see the prices I think about getting something SDR based, especially for HF, instead. On the other hand, I have a thing for rack mount equipment so a tiny black box just doesn't have the same appeal.

The radio's are not that expensive when you take a risk on them by buying them as is and untested. Although if you buy one all tuned up and guaranteed you can get some serious money in one. I have sold some 8617's for as much as 2800.00 and bought some untested and as a gamble for 200.00.

He already sighned it over to me. Don't be suprised if you hear about a shooting in Calhoun tomorrow. LOL.... Just kiddin!

Anyway, very nice. Is this a EBay catch? How much did you get it for, if you don't mind telling us :) ?

I would like to see or hear about some of the actual places or agencies that had these radios in operation. As many surplus WJ's that are out there it seems there should be some photos or info on some of their actual operators. This latest WJ-8618 I have has a sticker that says "USN Property" "Plant Account". I assume this unit was used by the US Navy....
