I caught New York control and some planes on 6628khz usb tonight
YouTube - Shortwave-New York Control-North Atlantic

also while nosing around I caught some foreign comms on 6950khz lsb and 7000khz lsb too-any ideas?
PS ka3jjz Mike if you pop in here-you explained something a while back about the "warbling" sounds being something-do you remember? It came in on 6628 after I videoed it and now New York is buried.

Ridgescan:

It comes in every night down here in So Cal, many times the signal is stronger than SF Air!

Thanks Mike:) now I want to start nosing around in those areas again-I usually stick in the SW broadcast clusters.

Hey Mark I believe that-because their signal was at least equal to SF radio here!

Thank you sir:) I appreciate you saying it!

By the way-I get "New York Radio" on a daily basis on 10051khz usb so I guess it's logical to be able to get this one too. Fun!

Last night I was received SF Air, Tokyo and planes out over the Pacific stronger than I have received in years. New York Radio was a little weak, but very readable. I received Greece for the first time in many months. There's a definable change in the "air".

Yep the conditions over the past 2-3 days have been outstanding!

I think this is a great idea. Even better if we have audio to go with it :D

Oh yeah:) I got them here. Thanks Brandon! I hear the planes too! How much power do they run on the plane's rig? Also-I always wondered where's the antenna?

Here is some info on New York Radio
It's dated 2003 but probably accurate for the most part.

Yep that's the document :)
I'm not really sure what kind of power the aircraft run. They are usually harder to pick up but lately things have been pretty good.

Here is New York wkg N53GX with both sides heard.

Aircraft routing below.

"HF transciever puts out 400 watts."

Sounds about right. 100watts AM is about 400watts PEP Sideband is what the old Collins 618T used to put out. The antenna is the weak link. Wasn't so bad when you didn't go much faster than 150kts - you just unrolled the antenna wire and dangled it out the back! As long as you remembered to wind it back in again....... Nowadays the vertical stabiliser (the fin at the back - not the rudder) is used with a matching network - not the best but it works.
