Hope this post gets on? I have a Midland 78-800, it's been in storage and just came across it. Is this unit any good. I live in the New Lenox Illinois area and I'm interested in picking up local PD,FD and Sheriff. Is this possible or would you recommend a diffrent unit. Thank you in advance

Why don't you see what you can monitor with a scanner by going to the database and learning the frequencies your county and city use. Then look in the scanner wiki for what type of scanner needed. We all would be happy to give you a hand. :)

It looks like radio shack at one better than the Pro 164 which I believe was a 2008 model. It also does P25? I'll have to check into that to see what feature that adds. Seems like it can be a pretty interesting hobby.Look's like it's gonna take a while to educate myself. Or I'll have to find someone in my area that can give a more hands on approach. Thanks again for your response.

The Uniden BC15 and Pro-164 are not digital trunk tracking scanners. They are analog only. The only system in your area is the StarCom21 statewide system. Your county is analog. There are conventional frequencies for you to monitor also. Don't be confused. The 164 that you purchased will work quite well for your monitoring needs. :)
