• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I believe the change is that they are getting off the business freqs and going to all public safety freqs.

I have been told that the town and marcus communications have a 100 year agreement to keep the system as is.
At least 1 channel is going to be used for fire department simulcast, but I am not sure what the other channels will be used for.

Does Newington still use 154.445 as the Fire simulcast frequency? I know when I have listened in the past it always sounded like this frequency was encrypted as I would always hear a lot of "noise" that would go in and out during transmissions. I have not listened in the past few months so I'm not sure if that's still an issue.

154.445 is still active. It was never encrypted. You are most likely hearing the bleedover from Northeast Utilities high power paging system on an adjacent freq.

I think the intention has been to get off of business channels as they cannot be kept as interference free as the PS channels.

I would find it hard to believe that the town would be handcuffed by a 100 year agreement on the system. I would guess that the agreement may be for the tower sites that Marcus built.
