I'm curious to know if anyone has any "top secret" leaks or tidbits about what Uniden might be bringing to market in the future to improve upon the 396, or the 996, or the mid-range stuff like the 246 and the now discontinued 330T.

I know UPMan is around but he's limited to what he could say regardless of disclaimers because he works for 'em, but not everyone does. :)

I don't mean for this to become a "What I want in Uniden's next top of the line hardware" thread, but I'll bet a lot of people that might respond would probably have a list of stuff they'd love to see. My own personal desire in a high end $500+ scanner? A real LCD screen, not just some "dot matrix" style panel we've been using for 25+ years now. A real LCD with colors, etc. I mean, if you can find "photo keychains" nowadays with 1" color LCD panels in 'em (for $20 or less, even), couldn't a scanner manufacturer find some way to move up the ladder a bit and do such a thing?

I'm just seriously curious about "the next big thing" whatever it might be...

I agree, looking to pick up a new scanner within the next month, if uniden doesn't let out even a hint of something new I'm leaning towards the psr600. Have only bought uniden in the past.

Nothing personal - but these questions always amaze me...

1) If it's "super confidential", the people reading this thread that know the super-confidential info are not going to read your message and say "Here's your info."

2) If it's a hot rumor that isn't bound by an NDA, people are not going to sit on that info and await someone posting a thread asking for the nitty gritty. They post it.

Great! I'm glad I amazed you. I accomplished something today.

After having owned 2 Unidens in the past few years (246T and a 330T for a short period of time), I will most definitely stick with Uniden for new hardware in the future. GRE's memory management, even with their own branded stuff nowadays, is unbelievably inefficient compared to Uniden's dynamic memory system(s). I bought a Pro-97 recently because it was cheap ($70) and that's basically it - if I could have purchased a 246T or anything with dynamic memory for even close to that price I would have.

So I'm still going to wonder: what's next?

I'm hoping they make the GPS feature of the 996T a standard...with improvements (such as the ability to map out rectangular areas), and move the internal memory to external...such as SDHC - latest size being sold I think was something along the lines of 130 gb.

The new secret Uniden scanner is called the BCD700PV. It does everything a 996T does plus ProVoice and even monitors Nextel and encrypted FBI comms. The new scanner is so top secret it won't even be sold in stores :D

All jokes aside....If Uniden is looking for customer ideas here are a few I'd like to see: (I know, wishful thinking, but hey...)

1. SD card slot. Allows the user to record radio traffic directly onto the card.

2. Support for more advanced LTR systems

3. Ability to see the Radio ID of the user transmitting on a trunked system.

4. Ability to track a specific radio ID conversation (similar to how we can track group IDs)

5. Add SSB to the list of supported modes.

6. Multiple ATT (or ability to select how much attentuation is applied).

7. Squelch that can really block signals (similar to how the Icom PCR software allows)

Whew!

The SD card thing and audio recording... that would be pretty cool, with possibly a "Record" button on the side perhaps. Very interesting idea. #2 is not of much use to me; hardly any LTR systems here in Vegas that I even worry about monitoring. #3 would be cool, and again with a "real" LCD it could be possible to customize everything that could be displayed on it, even down to radio IDs instead of TG IDs (radio mode as opposed to TG mode?).

SSB would be nice for MilAir; I'm not aware of much else using it anymore in the most popular bands except that one. And the attenuation idea, for a manual selection like dialing in just what you want, that could be interesting.

But... let's try not to turn this into a "Oh man, what I wouldn't do for <xxx> in a scanner..." thread. :)

And it'll likely have removable quick-swap battery packs and a drop-in charger (with data connect via the charger cradle for auto-sync of changes)!! Ah, well.

I would like to see a note pad feature, where you could put some infomation (such as station numbers) that you could pull up with a touch of a button.

Since even cheap cell phones come with GPS, I'd like to see them install a GPS chip right in the scanner. If you get a CC or find some other interesting frequency, when you save it the location information of that signal can be saved as well. Combine that with good software and driving around and you can start triangulating signals.

Uhhh, do you have two handles? I don't think you are listed as the original poster.

Let me also state - that I'm SHOCKED at the way this thread has ended up :>

No only Highockets! Your post was under 2 posts, you did not quote, I took it as you were talking about both posts above you. People have different opinions on things, and you stated yours, nothing wrong with that, I do allot of reading here and enjoy both pro and con statements about the subject matter what ever the topic. I don't always agree, but either way, it's a great place to learn, and I enjoy it!

I'd like to see Bluetooth capability so I can listen wirelessly, just think, one in each ear, the other for the cell phone!

That was brought up in another thread as well, and I think it is a great idea. It would be nice to be able to listen on a bluetooth earpiece and not have a cord to deal with. If bluetooth capability was to be put in a scanner, it could also be used for data transfer, rather than having to use a USB/serial cable.
