The last few weeks I have been traveling I-80 from SLC to Elko for work. I have tried to program the EDACS for NHP with no luck. I have a Pro-96 that I am using and just have a few questions.
First, do I need to program in all the frequencies associated with the towers I am trying to scan or is it like the Motorola Type II where I only need the CC's.
Second, do I need to change anything on the Win96 except the "type" to EDACS?
Third, when I put in the TG info, do I enter it as DEC, HEX or AFS?

My last trip out, I had all the frequencies accociated with W.Wendover, Currie and Oasis programmed and all my TG info entered as AFS, scanning in "Open" mode and could only hear breks every once in a while, absolutly NO radio traffic.

You will need to enter each frequency for each site that you wish to monitor, in the LCN order given, assuming they are all correct. Some sites have frequencies that are not in order but rise, fall, and rise again in frequency. In the PRO 96 you cannot put them all in one bank, only one site in each. EDACS is very different from Motorola. As for talkgroups, I like the AFS format as the first two numbers suggests to me the type of activity that I am likely to hear. Example, 05-xxx is usually law enforcement related on the NSRS, 06-xxx is usually DOT. In the rural areas I usually let the radio search for IDs' as most rural sites do not have a lot of activity. This way I don't miss much.

Program all tower sites (or at least those you want) as "sites"

Program all freqs for each site in LCN order

I get irritating noise off the Caliente tower so I deleted it

Your scanner will probably scan faster/more efficiently if you divide the state into geographic areas and make each area a separarte "system", and only scan the system that's of interest at the time

I divided it up into thirds according to NHP Command Areas, more or less, and put just LV talk groups with the Southern Command, Reno talk groups with tower sites in the Northern Command area, etc. You could also do it by county if you were only interested in, or travelling through, certain counties, once you figure out the geographic location of the tower sites.

Also Brandon, with the 96 do not use the first channel of the bank (000,100, etc. Start with 001,101,etc) EDACS won't do crap without doing this. I happen to be heading out that way this weekend and the sites programmed in mine are: Wendover, Oasis, Spruce and Peavey since I'm only going as far as Wells for the Fun Run.

Thanks for the help guys, I am going out there again tomorrow to Wells for work. So I have to put each tower into a different bank in order for it to work correctly? Maybe that is why I did not hear a single transmission my last time through. Thanks again, I will see how tomorrow goes.

Wendover, Oasis, Spruce and Peavey ...

Is your "Peavey" the same as "Peeve" in the database?

I've been trying to figure out where "Peeve" is.....

One more quick question, can i mix EDACS and Motorola in the same bank so I can keep my UCAN map or do I have to designate only one EDACS tower site to one bank ONLY?

So here is my latest findings from my Nevada trip yesterday. The info you all gave me helped a bunch. I programmed in Oasis, Currie, Peeve, Spruce Mountain and West Wendover. It worked great for NHP from Wendover to Elko. I found some control channels that are not yet in the DB for some sites, here is the info I gathered:
Currie: Could never get a CC
Oasis LCN 1- ED: CTL-01
Peeve LCN 4- ED: CTL-04 (none currently in DB)
Spruce Mountain LCN 1- ED: CTL-01 (none currently in DB)
West Wendover LCN 2- ED: CTL-02 (currently showing LCN 1 as CC in DB)

Just looking back through some old posts. FWIW Currie is a very small NDOT station about 10 miles North of the US 93/US 93 ALT junction, and is about 60 miles south of Wells
