Would anyone who lives in the Niagara Region listen to railroad Frequencies? I have the option on my scanner (BC769D) to scan the RR radio Frequencies but nothing turns up.

In Niagara, you'll find CN on Channel 1, End to End - 161.415, and Channel 3, Dispatch - 160.935. For CP Rail, you'll find them on Channel 82, Hamilton Sub Standby - 160.815. For Trillium Railway, you'll find them on (I believe) 160.445.

I can tell you living in Fort Erie Ontario, all the Railroad frequencies are very busy, including Buffalo NY, check your scanner setup .

A talking hot box is a trackside monitoring device that uses thermal devices to measure each axle temperature for a worn out bearing. Worn out bearings cause axles to seize and possibly de-rail the train or a portion of it.

I've only once herd a hot axle.
