The other day my unit stopped making any sound of any type no talking or even beeps from pushing button(s). I turned it off and on and nothing still but then out of the blue there was sounds. However to night it has done the same thing but I can't get any sound to come back. It is happening on different systems both P25 and analog (Yes it is stopping on channels) and as I sad above not even the key beeps are coming over. I had it in for the battery fix a few mouths ago and the updated firmware.

Any one have this?

I have looked at http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tech-support/313080-bcd436hp-id-shows-but-no-audio.html

Just as I was about to push submit new thread it started to make all the normal sounds??? Still like to know if any one has had this issue.

and

it has happened many times to my 396T.
a few on my 396XT.
it seems they still use the same jack, and it has issues.
try inserting a plug a few times and see what happens.
also keep one handy when out.

If i have it would have been two years ago when I got it to test it. I never would have thought of the earphone maybe being the/part of the issue. Next time it happens and I have a per with me i will try them and see what happens. Hope I make it home before as i don't have any on me.

Thanks for the responses.

I had a look at it today and don't believe it was the earphone that was the issue. I opened it up and had a good look at the jack and speaker. I adjusted the speakers taps and when closing the unit made sure that the taps were in good contact with the pads on the board. I think maybe the taps lost good contact with the pads.

So far so good. Thanks for the info abut the earphone jack.

Do you have audio getting to the speaker contacts? (you can test that with a voltmeter or another similar speaker and some leads)

I do have audio getting to the speaker contacts. Tested it with a multimeter and another speaker and it is 100%. The speaker it self works some times and not others. I have found that the times it is not working if I just very lightly push on it it comes to life which is hard to do when it the scanner.

It might be the contacts which would not be resolved by a replacement speaker. There are some tricks to try, but I would not recommend them if it's still under warranty.

Just thought I'd add a conclusion to this for anyone who finds this later.

I did get a new speaker and installed it and so far so good.
