Hi all trying to get this dongle working with Ubuntu but I get this error.... Any ideas

I run RTL_TEST I get his
sam@ubuntu:~$ rtl_test
Found 1 device(s):
0: Realtek, RTL2838UHIDIR, SN: 00000008

Using device 0: Generic RTL2832U OEM

Kernel driver is active, or device is claimed by second instance of librtlsdr.
In the first case, please either detach or blacklist the kernel module
(dvb_usb_rtl28xxu), or enable automatic detaching at compile time.

usb_claim_interface error -6
Failed to open rtlsdr device #0.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The default operating system driver for your dongle's USB VID:pID (dvb_usb_rtl28xxu) has claimed the dongle and rtl_test as compiled won't forcibly take the dongle from that driver (playing nice).

You'll have to blacklist that driver so that on startup the dongle is free for rtl_test to use. There should be some examples of how to blacklist the driver on google.
