I have recently been monitoring NORAD freqs here in the SF Bay Area. On several occasions an aircraft will call Big Foot (today on Blue7) and ask for a "modes & codes check". Big Foot responded "sweet, sweet". This sounds like the aircraft is asking for a transponder check and the reply is that it is normal. Is this correct? Also, has anyone heard any Combat Air Patrol (CAP) flights over the S F Bay Area lately? Thanks.

hmm... never have heard that before.

It does sound logical though, and you are probably correct. That isn't any NATO brevity I am away of. Have you heard anything besides "Sweet, Sweet?"

If it has the same meaning as what is used in the Navy. Sweet, sweet. Means everything is correct, normal, or good to go.

There are a lot of Navy jets working out in the ocean and that is probably what is meant. I didn't know it was common Navy slang, and perhaps used by other services as well. Thanks all for the input.

Yeah, thanks.

I have never heard that ether. The last month before I left Florida, there was tons of CAP by some VFA-106 birds.... never heard sweet before.

Thanks!

I’ve heard this in reference to the data link between aircraft being good or bad as;

“Timber Sweet” or “Timber Sour”

They are checking modes and codes. Sweet sweet is good and sweet sour is bad.
