NORAD - Russia Exercise to Track Airliner across Borders:

Vigilant Eagle, the first-ever NORAD-Russia live-fly, cooperative air defense exercise is scheduled to begin Sunday in airspace near western Alaska and eastern Russia. US and Russian fighters, airborne warning and control aircraft, and aerial refueling platforms will participate, along with US, Canadian, and Russian personnel operating from military air operations centers at JB Elmendorf, Alaska, and Khabarovsk, Russia.

Both NORAD and the Russian air force will participate in a scenario in which they must send fighter aircraft after a commercial airliner captured by terrorists. NORAD says the exercise will focus on shadowing and the cooperative hand-off between the fighters as the airliner proceeds across international boundaries. NORAD first announced the upcoming event back in June. (NORAD release)

Expect VHF & UHF usage and possible joint HF Radio links.

NORAD - НОРАД Joint Exercise - This Weekend on 7 ~ 8 August

Howdy

The exact timing is-not known at this time, but depending on the 'direction' of travel (East-West or inverse) and the time of day/night and the location the International Date Line may or may-not have this exercise starting on the 7th and into the 8th this weekend. Not confirmed.

Might look for any Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) or other FAA Restriction(s) or Flight Levels / Jetways that are "Blocked" for long tracks.

Being that AWACS and Intercept aircraft will be up, suspect the Coast Guard, SAR Aircraft and related folks may be active on frequencies perhaps, as some legs may be over water. HF wise, the normal North Pacific Airways Sector Frequencies, along with all NORAD HF / VHF / UHF might be active as times.

Might want to set up a few radios scanning wideband. Please let us all know what we find in frequency usage, especially any cross-nation Comm's.

Thx

Bill

NORAD Frequencies (Partial Listing)

Howdy

Attached is a multiple source NORAD VHF/UHF Frequency listing and several Alaska Aerial Refueling Frequencies. Expect that some frequencies are dated and may or may-not be in current use.

Hope this helps...

Thx

Bill
