I was hearing traffic on 320.6000 this morning. They were giving locations. I had it text tagged as NORAD. Anyone else hear this? I am in south Arkansas.

Do you think I would be hearing that far?

Possibly some aircraft from Little Rock Air Force Base about 90 miles north of here.

It could be NORAD training. They do send crews/aircraft to the US to get some time in training with/against US aircraft and crews.

I'm in Northern Arkansas (Marion County). Didn't hear them here.

My guess, since I listen to NORAD stuff pretty regularly, is that it is the F16s from Ft Smith doing a NORAD exercise intercept or exercise CAP refuelling. 320.6 can be used for any purpose that the SOCC deems necessary, but it is most commonly used as a Boom freq for Air Sovereignty ops....

Do any of you guys regularly run searches on UHF Air?

It's probably 90% of what I do with regard to mil-air. Most of my time is spent with two radios searching the band, and one scanning freqs I already have.

I've never really found any activity other than what I already have as programmed frequencies.

Add NORAD freq 324.0.

On the topic of searching....it's the ONLY way to find MilAir reliably and to establish a frequency database. You can use published lists but that's a hit and miss proposition. The things that someone posts that are heard even 50 miles away from you could be much different than what you'd hear. Add to that the differences in radios and antennas and the two of you could have totally different MilAir experiences. For instance, since I have A-10 and F-16 units within listening distance, I always keep one scanner searching the 138-144 mHz band for their tac freqs. Almost daily I'll find a flight from a different part of the country coming through the area chatting on a freq in that range in addition to all my local stuff (within about 150 miles). When I'm not swamped with local activity I'll keep other radios searching various "chunks" of the 225-400 mHz band. I consider this absolutely necessary to establishing a good frequency list for your particular area.

Norad On Heightened Alert

COLORADO SPRINGS AIR FORCE INSTALLATION ON HEIGHTENED ALERT

An Air Force installation in Colorado Springs and one near Denver are operating with heightened security.

The Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, which houses NORAD, is now at "Bravo-Plus".

There are five levels of alert: normal, Alpha (low), Bravo (medium), Charlie (high) and Delta (critical). “Bravo-Plus” is slightly higher than a medium threat level.

The Cheyenne Mountain Air Station And Buckley Air Force Base are among four installations in the country at the higher alert level ordered last week by then- Acting-Commander of Air Force Space Command, General Fred Klotz.

Space Command would not comment on the reason for the security increase.

The order also affects Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and Patrick air force base in Florida.

BMT - do you hear traffic on all of those frequencies?

Napalm - I wouldn't say I do it "regularly" but I do search chunks of the band when I can. I also get Air Guard activity in the 138 MHz range during daytime hours.

24/7 365

I have multiple scanners that are dedicated to searching nothing but the 225-400 band, the 138-144 and 148-150 bands. I've got my normal freqs I program in to scan of course but searching is just as important for me in my milcom monitoring strategy.
