Never heard of that one but you are most likely out of luck with the PD as they are on the 700/800MHz Statewide P25 Phase 2 trunked system (CLMRN). You may be able to use it for the FD channels in the database even though the FD is in the process of switching over to the CLMRN system as well. I would suspect that you would be able to hear the FD(s) on an analog VHF signal for the near future.

Welcome to the RR forums. Building upon what was already mentioned you will need a P25 Phase-II capable scanner to listen to Norwich police & fire on CLMRN. Talkgroups are TDMA (mode "T") so a P25 Phase-I scanner won't work in this case. Detectives are fully encrypted (mode "TE") so you won't be able to pick them up. Strongly recommended to use a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 to overcome simulcast distortion you'll likely face monitoring with anything else

Just bought a handheld Uniden Bearcat Radio Scanner BC89XLT 50 Channel 800MHz, trying to find out what frequency I can listen to Norwich fire& pd??
I had one of those back in the day, I loved that scanner it was a hot receiver

But its over 30 years old and only does analog

This is from the RR Wiki- you need one of these scanners to listen to Norwich pd and as stated above you have to contend with simulcast distortion

The Unication G4 & G5 are also an option

Scanner Support for TDMA[edit]

The following scanners can decode P25 Phase I, Phase II, and Motorola X2-TDMA systems.
Notes

2 Requires latest firmware update. 3 Requires Whistler Official Upgrade (WOU).

You can still monitor Norwich Fire to an extent on 33.66, PL 179.9 for the volunteer companies and 154.205, PL 192.8 for the city.

The simulcast is up due to paging and interoperability with mutual aid.

I have purchased a Uniden SDS200 based on what a friend told me who lives in my same general area and currently has problems picking up the Norwich Police on their new system.
I have had problems listening to the Norwich Police on my Uniden BCD996P2.
I guess as you say "Whiskey3JMC", my problem is simulcast distortion.

However the Norwich City and Volunteer Fire Departments come in great with it (BCD996P2).

When the Fire Departments DO change over, I will need to put that SDS200 in service.

I sure do miss the days of the high, low, and Ultrahigh band programmable scanners.
Just put in the frequency, hit enter and it worked great.

Driving from Connecticut to Fla., years ago I heard every major fire and police dept that I passed through on I-95 using a portable programmable scanner.
I just added or deleted the frequencies as I made a stop about every 2 hours.

I hear Norwich PD and Norwich Fire with no issues on an SDS100, with a stock Uniden antenna, as well as my SDS200. No issues at all.

... also ... Norwich Fire has changed over. They are presently simulcasting, but they have switched over. You can only monitor their TAC channels on CLMRN.

Thank you for that info.

I have heard the dispatchers tell fire units to switch to Tac 1 or Tac 2
Just a guess here but from what I think is the City Units generally operate on Tac 1 while the Volunteer Units operate on Tac 2

Coming in great. I tried the same frequencies with the fire dept and don’t even have a signal. I have an antenna on the roof and using lmr400 cable. I forgot the name of the antenna, But it’s like a X

Thanks

In regards to the above, I very recently talked with a Norwich Firefighter and he told me that they (the Norwich FD) and I assume the Volunteer fire departments, are now operating on the new 800 mhz channels.

That Norwich Firefighter also told me that all of the older high band radios have been taken out of the trucks as well.
Each member working is also carrying around the new portable radios.

I still pick up the Norwich Fire (high band) and the Norwich Volunteers (low band) on my other scanner but I was told that it could END at ANY TIME

Like "georged4997", Is there anyone out there that could just pass on the frequencies, or the numbers needed, to pick up those two new Dispatch channels ?

Note - I am using an SDS 200 scanner and I want to be ready when the older channels are no longer broadcast

I'm far from being an expert when it comes to this new 800 stuff
So if you can help in some simple terms, I sure do appreciate it.

Thank you

Note: These are in the narrow FM mode and low power. If you are close to a call you might hear them. And, you need to program them in your scanner outside of the CLMRN p25 system as individual FM frequencies. (Just like we used to back in the day. lol)

Portables yes, mobile radios ... no. Most retain their prior mobiles, in addition to CLMRN.

Yes, the simulcast may be shut down at any time, this is confirmed.

The Volunteers joined CLMRN at the same time at The City department. Each volunteer department now has Unication G4 pagers. While some still use their Minitor or Unication G1 pagers (depending on fire company) , the G4 pagers have been in stations for months now. I have had a hand in assisting with the adjusting of some G4 pagers to be more effective in use, so I have first hand knowledge of this.
