I'm debating and can't make up my mind on which SDR to buy. The choices are SDRplayRSPdx, Airspy HF+ Discovery, Airspy R2 with Spyverter. I'm a total noob and can't really find any review comparisons online. I purchased a rtl-sdr a month ago that I really enjoy but I want to upgrade my SDR for a more robust experience. I'm mostly interested in receiving SW and the lower bands, but I am also interested with the upper bands as well.

Hello and welcome to the RR forums. I have just recently bought the sdrplay rspdx and it is fantastic!! It has a couple of features that work well with mw broadcast band and long wave. The feature is called HDR and helps to strengthen these bands listening ability. It also has a mw and fm notch filter which you can select for use on the upper bands. It is currently onsale at 70 dollars off until the end of this month. You cant go wrong with this purchase and I am glad that I bought it.

Do you have any experience with the Airspy setups? I like the RspDx but I wonder which radio setup is the best.

Same here. Trying to learn all the specification jargon so I can understand which radio is the best.

I seen the RspDx on sale at Hamradio.com. I'm just not sure If I should buy it or Airspy HF+ Discover or Airspy r2 and spyverter. I've been reading about them and watching youtube videos about all the radios but not sure which is best.

Is Airspy HF+ Discovery better than using an AirspyR2 combined with the Spyverter ?
The Airspy HF+ Discovery is the best for ME. The plus of the R2 is the 10 MHz max. bandwidth (HF+: 0.9 MHz), useful e.g. if you want to use DAB+ or want to view a larger spectrum, and the frequency range up to 1.8 GHz (HF+: 500 Hz..31 MHz and 60..260 MHz).
On the lower frequency side the HF+ goes down to 500 Hz, the R2 plus Spyverter down to 1 kHz.
For my ULF to VHF receiving the HF+ is best and for UHF I have other SDRs.

Advice I give people:
If only interest in HF, Airspy HF+ Discovery (wins easily).
If only interested in VHF/UHF, get an Airspy R2.
If interested in both and do not want two (why not?) or cannot afford both (I understand that for some people), get an SDRplay RSP.
Forget about the Spyverter.

After much thought and consideration, I decided to go with the SDRplayRSPdx. Thanks.

I probably be getting an AirspyHF+ in the near future. Thanks for the reply.

If you are into public safety radio, most of the software packages support rtl devices (Airspy, et al) and not niche devices like sdrplay. Best to have both.

Did they ever fix SRRplay to be compatible with SDRtrunk software?
It would be the other way around since SDRPlay uses an unsupported chipset - AFAIK, DSD+FL, Unitrunker, SDRTrunk, OP25 do not support the device.
