I have a BCT15X and when I upload my FreeScan file to the scanner, the display says "Nothing To Scan". I found this note in the Easier to read manual:

"If no systems are programmed, or all systems (or groups in a system) are locked out or turned off, 'Nothing to Scan' appears. Turn on a system/site quick key or unlock a system/site to scan. If you turn off all groups in a system you will not be able to turn any back on and also see 'Nothing to Scan'. This is a bug that frustrates everybody. In that case, while in Scan mode, press and hold Func () to lock function mode. Scroll to the system then press the number of the group quick key(s) you want to enable. Press to start scanning then press again to unlock function mode. "

I have 3 groups and I don't think they are locked or turned off. They all have a quick key. I got them to scan by pressing the function button, turning it one click, then pressing the 3 quick key buttons.

In attempt to understand this better I next downloaded from the Uniden to FreeScan and looked through the settings, but I didn't see anything different from my original program. Next I uploaded this back to the scanner and I did not get the "Nothing To Scan" message. Everything was fine. So something is different in FreeScan that enables these groups after upload, but I can't figure it out. Can anyone tell me what setting in FreeScan I need to change so my groups are scanned by default?

I attached the two FreeScan files. The one ending with ver A produces the "Nothing To Scan" message. Ver B does not produce the message, the scanning starts right away after upload.

What you did was enable three Group Quick Keys.

If you click on the System in FreeScan, you should see the boxes at the bottom of the info checked.

If you assigned System Quick Keys as well, click on TOOLS, then SYSTEM QUICK KEY MANAGER and you will see a grid of SQKs. Check the ones you want active.

Got it, thanks!

Near the bottom of the BCT15X display there is this Quick Key line:
Code:
S0:----------

When I press the function button, another line below the S0: line is displayed which looks like this:
Code:
S0:----------
GRP123-------
But this GRP line goes away after a couple seconds. Is there a way to get the S0 line to not display and the GRP to stay displayed?

In short, no. It will display when there is activity on that System, but not when scanning since it would have to change each time the system changes, and would be unreadable. In your case, it might work since you appear to only have that one System programmed, but in general it would not work.

Also, from that description, you have no System Quick Keys assigned, but you do have three Group Quick Keys assigned.

You COULD program each Group as a separate System and it would show on the display which one it is scanning.

Thanks. I hadn't thought bout making 3 systems instead of 3 groups. That might be better in regards to what is shown on the screen,

I will add that if this is trunked, you would not want to do that, as it will slow the scan speed overall. But, if your channels are conventional it will have no effect on the scan speed. Make sure the HOLD TIME is set to 0.

Is there a well to tell if it's trunked?
