Win_COM.exe with Whistler USB-Serial cable both set for COM5: after brief pause when attempting an upload to scanner I get "No response from scanner"
I tried WIN500.exe and constantly get ERROR: "Can't load the FTDI driver.
Yes, I installed the recommended virtual driver, even though it did get installed when I first plugged in the Whistler cable.

Is there a better software package to use with this scanner?

I use Butel ARC500 Basic and never had problems detecting the scanner. If it doesn't recognize the com port, you can click on auto detect and that will solve the problem if the proper driver is installed.

I installed Butel ARC500 Basic and it saya it's uploading to the scanner but the scanner tells me that its memory has zero data and "Nothing Enabled" when I press SCAN. All channels in the SW data lists have LockOut set to Off.
I can't even get noise adjusting the squelch all the way down, or up. Nothing on WX and nothing scanning the preprogrammed freqs.
I think maybe I have a BAD WS1065!
I'll try to call support tomorrow.

Does the scanner screen show the percentage of the data transferred while the file is uploading? Please attach a copy of your programming file so that I can check it for any problems. The preprogrammed frequencies are in V-Scanner folders. You have to load them into the working memory to scan them. I assume you tried to turn on scan lists by pressing numbers on the keypad.

With all of the problems you are having, it sounds like the CPU firmware may be corrupted. The attached file is the latest Whistler firmware updater for that scanner. If Whistler has the same conclusion, use the updater. Save the zipped file to your computer and extract. To place your scanner in firmware update mode, hold in the PROG button while turning on. Connect your scanner to the computer with the USB cable and run the extracted program. The 1040 and 1065 use the same firmware.

Thanks for all the help! I am making good progress.
I have the scanner loaded from ARC500 all are in 2 scan groups (1 & 2) 1=Ottawa Co, 2=Allegan Co (I live close to the border).
All of Allegan is digital so Scn2 has only TalkGroups. My issue now is that none of my TalkGroups are being scanned?
My file is attached, if someone has time to review and tell me what I missed, I will be very grateful.

I see a couple of things. If every talkgroup is priority, I don't think the scanner knows what to do. Turn off priority on all of the talkgroups. You have the control channels for both counties in a single system with Multi-Site set to Roam. In that configuration, the scanner will lock on the county with the best signal and not scan the other one. I would set up 2 systems, one for Ottawa Co and another for Allegan Co. Put just the Ottawa control channels in the Ottawa system and the Allegan control channels in the Allegan system. Set Multi-Site to Off for both systems. Assign the Ottawa Co talkgroups to scan list 1 and the Ottawa Co system. Assign the Allegan Co talkgroups to scan list 2 and the Allegan Co system. The audio boost is used to raise the audio level if the level is low. I would turn it off unless the level is low. Otherwise, you may end up with distorted audio. I have seen the audio output chip blown a couple of times on the Pro-197, the older brother of your scanner. Let me know how that works. Both of the counties use P25 simulcast systems which can be a problem for your scanner. You might try varying the orientation and length of the antenna and turning on the attenuator.

Thank you very much!
It is up and working now, with a couple minor tweaks to your suggestions.
Being a novas I had no idea how to set up 2 systems and either switch between them or have both in operation at the same time, which is what I will normally have as in my old non-digital scanner.
I have most of the setting as suggested, volume is fine with boost off.
I turned On "Priority" for only the few channels that I want to monitor closest.
I could not locate where or how to change Multi-Site to Roam.

If you click on Trunk Systems, Multi-Site is 8 tabs to the right of where you entered the frequencies under the blue TSYS bar. There is only a single site in each system. You should set Multi-Site to OFF for both systems. That may speed up your scanning a little since it won't be checking for a better control channel once it is acquired. If there is a problem with the control channel frequency in the system and you lose it, your scanner will automatically search for one of the alternates. If you click on Talkgroup or conventional, you will see that there is a column for Favorite. Presently, you have them all turned on. Normally, you would start with them all turned off and turn on only your favorite talkgroups and conventional frequencies. You can make that only the local ones in your immediate area. There is a FAV button on the front of your scanner. If you press that, only the favorites you selected will be scanned. You can return to the normal scan lists by pressing SCAN.
