Last week's power outage at Northern Virginia Community College's Alexandria campus appeared to affect their radio system, and they had to switch to OPS1 in order to raise their dispatcher at the Annandale campus. Apparently, dispatch could hear the officers, but they couldn't hear dispatch. Per the traffic on Ops 1 (which is Fairfax Co TRS TG 1552), the consolettes (3170137 & 3170138) on Ops1 had very poor audio quality, and they had to switch to a portable (3170034), until they fixed the issue and switched back to a consolette. What was odd was that the traffic on Ops1 was also heard on Alexandria TRS TGs 65026 and 65016 too (mostly without RIDs, which typically indicates a patch). Does anyone understand how this could be? It would, I guess, make sense for there to be NVCC TGs on the Alexandria system given the campus location (although it is a stone-throw from Fairfax).
