• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all...

We use the kenwood nx-200 radios and for some reason the radio will not receive while it is on the charger. It works fine when off, receives our tones and voice traffic, but sometimes when it's charging it will not pick up either...turns out I am missing runs because I'm not hearing the tones or voice or anything. As soon as I pick the radio up off the charger it comes to life. Really weird. Anybody ever seen this before??? Know any easy fixes? Thanks for reading!

Most likely the charger is generating radio frequency interference when operating.

FWIW, leaving radios ON while in a charge is NOT a good idea, and you should NEVER transmit with a radio in a desk charger. Most manufacturers advise against it, not just from the RFI potential, but it's hard on the batteries.

you'll get better life out of your batteries when you leave the radio on until they discharge (indicate low battery) then allow them to charge fully either off the radio or with the radio turned OFF in the charger.

Better to buy a spare battery and rotate out as needed if you need the radio on 24/7.

I know that it can really stress the battery, and have been thinking of buying a second battery for that reason. Unfortunately, since we switched to the digital system, the radio is our only means of dispatch...no more pagers... Is there anything that can be done to minimize the interference or is it something that we are just going to have to deal with right now?? Thanks for your reply by the way!

The receiver should not shut off while in the charger, so this would also be my first guess although I've never experienced it.

I would agree to have two or three spare batteries that could be charged and rotated out as needed. A PITA though. Why don't you have a bake sale or sell some useless crap on e-bay? Then you could get a real NX-700 base set up.
