• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

NX-5700F variant programming challanges

I was given a NX-5700F variant as a gift for Christmas, radio was purchased from an electronics recycler on ebay. I have a valid and licensed copy of KPG-d1n along with firmware from a dealer.

I'm able to read the radio's entitlements, and get its basic personality, but anything beyond that I encounter one of the following error messages:

"Reading data from this transceiver is not permitted"

When attempting to write a blank codeplug with a single analog conventional channel, I receive the following message:

"Writing this data is not permitted for this transceiver"

Radio was received with 3.0.0 firmware, I attempted an upgrade first to 4.6.0 and then 5.1.0, without any change, I'm using 5.2.0 for the FPU version.

Is there anything else to try before sending this radio back to the seller? Is this something a dealer or depot can assist with or is it better to cut losses and attempt to return the radio?

Radio has P25 Phase 1 conventional, p25 OTAP, nxdn, nxdn OTAP, a AE-30 SCM (FW 2.0.1) and the simplified license.

I'm trying to remember what the "F" destination code on the model number means. It's not one of the standard ones, but I'm having trouble finding any reference to it, or remembering what it meant.
But I think that's your issue.

If you can return it to the seller and get your money returned, that's probably your best plan. Software would be the challenge in reading/writing to that radio, and I'm not sure if there's an easy solution.

Maybe someone else remembers what the F destination code is and can enlighten both of us.

Did some searching of previous posts, and it looks like the F market code were for federal radios, or radios bought under federal grants. Kenwood NX-5000 Model Number Meaning

As for why it's not readable/writeable, that might be the password, but it should pop up and ask for it. If it's not asking for it, there may be something else going on.

I am thinking the "F" designation may be for the forestry service? KPG-D1 is usually for "K" designation, but you have "F". It sounds to me like you have the wrong version/model of software for that radio.

I attempted to write a clean codeplug with the multideck feature unchecked, also tried to write to the radio with the multi deck feature without success.

I'm not super familiar with the 5000's

I have a 5300F6 that I have no issues with D1N. That sounds like it's password protected.

Simplified license means it's a special radio for a specific (like fw specific aka custom data code plug) agency. Which no clue but think of it as a locked to agency key.
I will check with some inside people and get a you a clue as to what it means.

F is for Fed – there is at least a USFS version of the radio that's an "F" model. There appears to be a KPG-D1NSLK that is for "federal and class I railroads". The railroad versions of the 5700 appear to be "K" models.

It doesn't look like a password issue, though maybe that's what happens when you exceed the try count, which I don't recall having seen.

The firmware shows 5.10.00. You could try updating to 5.20 to match the KPG-D1N – there was some kind of issue about version matching in the last year or so but the details escape me.

I'll note it has a KWD-AE30K SCM crypto module. I'd wonder where the radio came from.
