• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

In the process of programming some subscriber units, I would like my users to be able to lock the keypad and channel selector and then unlock all from the portable. I see there's a check off table relating to key lock on the key assignment tab.

Does the key lock programmable button do both locking and unlocking?

Thanks!

Wow... if only EFJ could follow suit with Armada options.

I use the A/B selector on the 5200's for lock, and one of the side buttons below the PTT on the NX1200' s and 220's we use.
I tried the front buttons on a couple a found out it would lock when the users didn't want by hitting something, so I moved it.

What are you having problems with? Viking keypad lock behavior works as advertised in my experience.
After locking it, I couldn't unlock it without setting a "Soft Menu" button to Unlock.

What radio and firmware? I have the two-position toggle switch used for keypad lock on VP6000s running 8.40.20.77. The radios unlock when the toggle switch is moved back. I've also used press-and-hold of the emergency button for lock/unlock on VP6000s and 5000s (same hardware as the NX5000 portable).

Understood. I'd suggest reporting it to technical support, the 8000 firmware stack is quite a bit different from the 5000/6000 and has its own bugs.
My two-position toggle switch works fine as a lockout on my VP8000. Firmware is 8.42.12.103

By the way the Armada (1.42.15) that hit the market today still has a bug with 151.4 CTCSS.

Dumb question, but what bug is that?
