To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

3.0 is the latest firmware that is useable with KPG-111D. If you go up to the most recently released, 3.20, then you would need to update to KPG-111DN to access all the options, however KPG-111DN requires you program to narrow band analog freqencies only, so this can be an issue for Ham operators. I haven't tried it yet, but I know Kenwood has left holes in this for Ham operators, so may not be an issue.

Do you think the Firmware is all the same for Nx-200, Nx-300,... Nx-700 and Nx-800 ? I have the FW file for Nx-200 but I don't know if it works with Nx-700 ? thanks

Yes, the firmware for the NX-200, 300, 700, 800, 900, 901 are all the same.
My radio nx700 runs with the firmwere 2.32 now. I'm trying to reprogram with new firmware 3.0 but I can not.

Because I can not set the radio in program mode after turn power on with nemu button depressed.
I started Fpro, set the COM port, baud 115200. Then turn power on the radio with the Menu botton depressed but I don't see the "PROGRAM 115200" displays on LCD.

The radio can read/write normally with KPG-111D software.

Thanks for helps.

The latest 111DN will allow you to program ham frequencies in wideband mode. It only converts the frequencies that are in the bands affected by the narrow banding mandate into narrow mode. Everything else is left alone.
Go Kenwood!

Thanks, been too busy to download the new firmware and programming software to give it a try. That's good to know that Kenwood isn't making people jump through hoops for this sort of stuff. I went to some Kenwood training 2 years ago in Carson, CA and most of the people I talked to there were Hams. In fact, they had quite an impressive ham station there in the building. Not surprising they'd figure this in to the software.

NX700 Emergency button

Hi all,
I want to program the Red triangle button on Kenwwod NX700 as Emergency function using Key Assignment from KPG-111D software, but on the Triangle's menu doesn't list this function.
Does anyone can explain how to set this function ?
Thanks

The emergency function must be programmed in the "hold" column. It can't be programmed to activate instantaneously when the button is pressed.

NX-700 firmware

What's the earliest version that will support "very narrow" bandwidth for NXDN and how can I get my hands on it? Trying to setup a NX-700 for mobile use for mainly railroad communications.

Thanks in advance

Right, Most of the Kenwood radios do both Very Narrow (6.25KHz) and Narrow (12.5KHz). Unless you are using the NX-x40 models (which does 6.25 KHz digital only), they'll all do both types of NXDN conventional, 6.25 and 12.5, as well as 12.5KHz analog.

I was under that impression too but it gives me an error that very narrow is not accepted in NXDN with the 1.0x firmware. Not home at the moment to give the exact firmware version but the help file had a blurb about it as well.

NX-700 firmware

Got back in today and found the issue. Very Narrow is not supported in mixed mode (which I was trying) with firmware below 2.04. I'm only running 1.24.

Then you would need to update to K4.61 Firmware...
