• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I pilot. I fly.
Hello Kenwood Community,

Long story short, awhile back I purchased a few NX3320 used to tinker around with NXDN as a HAM. I would like to repurpose these radios for business use. After searching the forums, I understand that this is a factory installed option on new radios. Is it still possible to have this option installed? Or once the radio leaves the factory, is this option no longer available?

Thank you for the help. I have been lurking on this forum for quite some time now. The information from the user base has helped me out so much that I haven't needed to make an account until now.

The dealer or A Dealer, can send the radios in to have it installed. The ip67 rating get annulled but yes, it can still be done by Kenwood.

The AES-256 hardware is built-in to the NX-3000 series. Installing AES-256 is accomplished via installing the software license key via the License Management Client, which can be done at any time. No change to the IP rating as you aren't opening the radio.

I think the DEALER in POST #2 would know best.

The AES-256 capability already exists in the radio. It's activated by a software key, but can only be done at the factory. Per the pricing guide:
License Key for AES/DES Encryption
Note:
1. Factory Installation only. Must order L-5054.
2. Requires KPG-AE1/DE1 software key loader to encrypt.
3. KWD-3503AE is an U.S. DOC/BIS Export Controlled Item (ECCN 5A002A.1) Please see descriptions at the bottom.

I picked up a used NX-3820. Ordered the AES-256 license and installed it.

Installing radio feature license keys requires you to have an Account Registration key (.jkefa file); your dealer can help you with this.

OK. I guess they changed it. That quote above was from the Feb 2021 price list, and that's the latest one I have.
I'm wondering if since the AES-256 is an 'export controlled' item, the ability to activate it via KPT-300 is possible if they know exactly where it's going. If they can't control where the activation code is going, maybe they require factory visitation?

That would be strange; EFJ allows AES activation via software with no factory/depot installation required. Different platform, same parent company.
