Two questions on NXDN systems:

1. I'm listening to a certain NXDN channel. The Audio Type is set to Digital with the Digital Option set to Digital Code Search. I have a log program running (Arc536 Pro). I have logged 11 separate NAC values, however one seems to be dominant. Why would I get 11 separate values?

2. The agency I'm listening to is conventional. They do two tone, tone and voice alerting, however in Fire Tone Out Search, I only get one value for Tone A and nothing for Tone B. Is Fire Tone Out Search not fully functional with NXDN transmissions?

Thanks!

What''s the signal strength? If it's too weak it might have trouble to properly decode it. What's the bit error rate in SDS100/200 after you set a display field to show D-Error or when you push Fn+Vol at the 536 or Fn+Vol+Fn+Vol at the 436?

Signal strength is good - about what I'm getting on a P25 transmitter about 5 miles from me. Didn't note the bit error rate.

Depends on what sort of system it is.
If it's a single channel system, then it's using RAN codes to divide up users. Could be 11 different subscriber groups, each group having their own RAN on the same repeater. The more dominant one just has more traffic than the others.
This is similar to the old "community repeater" systems where analog repeaters would have a controller that would handle many different CTCSS tones. Each subscriber group would have their own tone. On a digital system like this, they would use RAN codes instead.

A lot of possible variables. NXDN on it's own won't support two tone, but a dispatch console can support it. Without knowing how the agency has things set up, I'd only be guessing. Could be a timing issue with your scanner. Might be due to some patching arrangement they have. Might be how your scanner is set up, any number of things.
