CB frequencies are the same nationwide. They are in the RR Wiki at this link. They are AM. What do you mean by "who will respond back the police?"?

cb channels

The cb channel plan is from 26.9 to 27.4 There are no tones and with different ways of communicating, like nextel direct and frs radio/gmrs radio probably NO-ONE would respond to an emergency call. Channel 19 the national trucker channel would be your best bet for a call for help.Unfortunately,in new york, cb is almost gone!!! Too many people use cb for hatred and name calling reasons instead of help and information.

I only want to mess around (not bad) and hear whats going on :)

So the truckers use channel 19. Mostly today people use the nextel bleep:)

.....

Speaking about name calling, I was listening a couple of months ago a couple of kids got thier hands on a cb and were calling the others on the freq very bad names : )

And the operators were talking about emergency channel only and the patriot act and stuff and to get off the freq!

That wasnt any of yous was it? :)

What used to be an excellent source of traffic and bear information has been completely ruined and abandoned because of people who "mess around." You're at least a decade or two late to the party you're trying to crash.

CB Channel 9 is still the emergancy channel in rural areas, I've seen signs along the highway in places.
I still listen to my CB, often at times I get pretty decent traffic reports, sure there is the ocasional punk messing around on it but drive a few miles and hes gone.

Most (but not all) PD's do not listen to CB anymore. The widespread use of cellphones
has made this mostley un-necessary and not cost effective.

No you cannot. The radio does not have the capability to be programed for that frequency range and mode. The fact that you do not know that is not a good sign and is evidence that you do not know what you are doing. Take the time to read up on the capabilities of the motorola HT1250 and be prudent about what you do program into it.

We have the same on the parkway in NJ, except ours say "Channel 9" instead of "Channel 19". Why would they want to monitor 19, anyway?

React?

There are still some REACT groups around who try to monitor CB Ch 9 and GMRS 675. I've run into a few of them at larger events in the mid-hudson valley area. Occassionally you will see them set up "coffee break" stops on I-84 in the Dutchess/Putnam areas usually around busy holiday travel times.
