Does anyone know what has happened to the plan to change the State Police Base Stations into repeaters? I occasionally hear a mobile being repeated through the remote sites, but not often. I had thought that the change over/reconfigure would have happened by now.

It seems that the idea was not as popular with some as it was with others. I believe they plan on operating on Orange's system for Zone 2, so it's probably a moot point now.

Ishmole, next time you hear a "mobile" being repeated through a remote site, note it's RIN. Its quite likely an SP Monroe car that SP Middletown just called and that trooper happened to be in the barracks at the moment and used the base radio inside the barracks to answer SP Middletown. That base radio hasn't been tuned off of F16 for months now.

I've been saying this for years. The DEC can/does do it, why couldn't SP...? The thing is now, they're all using their local county 911 trunked systems so you won't see that happening. The only thing they will be using their system for now 90% of the time is "admin" type stuff and car-car close range "ops".

Maybe in your neck of the woods, but not in the Hudson Valley, save for a few specific exceptions. VHF is very much alive and well all over this region.

Seems that's only because of your region's infamous "get-along"/coordination issues and convoluted communications "proprietary" concerns etc., that have been well documented here on the forums. The rest of the state isn't having those problems. You won't find much activity on troop radio in troops D, E or C. And I haven't heard a whole lot on A or B either on my travels about.

NYSP radio activity is very limited in most of Upstate since, with a few limited exceptions, all dispatch is handled by the respective county systems. Apparently the Hudson Valley and Downstate Troops still retain some dispatch functions for reasons including what you described.

DEC VHF activity is also very limited in Western NY. This is also due to some Law related dispatch now on county systems and, with the shift from DEC Regional to Central Dispatch, cell phones seem to be the primary means of communication. Activity in the Adirondacks, dispatched by Ray Brook, also seems to be less frequent recently.

NYSP and DEC have their own TGs on many county trunked systems which has reduced their administrative traffic on their VHF systems from what it used to be.

Exactly k2hz... been this way for a few years now. Other than the thruway troop, about the only thing you'll hear anymore is the radio checks and item announcements.

He will hear everything on New York State Thruway Authority, the 700's are the Troop cars, 500 numbers are the tow trucks and then usually every hour on the hour, you hear a roll call with each area reporting weather and temperature just like downstate New York. Here, it is New York dispatch, north of New Paltz, it is Albany dispatch. But everything comes out of Albany anyhow via t-one telephone line and alternates back and fourth from 453.425/453.525 and each region his their own CTCSS
