Lately hearing letter variants on the "10-10 - Investigate" signal, mostly "10Y3," used for anything from stuck elevators to large crowds to downed wires. Any insight on what the suffixes are?

From what I've been hearing. It has to do with the ICAD dispatching system. The 10-10 codes pop up on the dispatchers screen with a certain suffix and they read it out straight from the screen and sometimes not realizing they say it. As far as I know officers weren't given any breakdown of what they really mean.

Thank you, that's what I suspected.

Interestingly, I've found reference to "10Y3" being used as an internal classification code in the 1990s to reference "deaf tap" calls, in which the hearing impaired tap the telephone mouthpiece to summon assistance. Doesn't sound like that's its current context, though.

That last digit has to do with location. Inside , streets, subway , etc.

These are old SPRINT codes carried over to ICAD. In SPRINT this was not shown in the job, the dispatchers just had to memorize them to be able to enter the initial job and it was translated to words. ICAD shows the full code and its corresponding translation so the dispatchers now sometimes read them also. The first two number of a code are the general call type. The letter indicates a specific type of that code. The end number either indicates the location type or type of persons involved. 10-10Y_ codes are like the catch all, if something doesnt fit into another code 10-10Y something is used. Most other codes are set:

EX: 10-52K1 = Dispute with a knife inside 10-34S2 = Assault via shooting outside.
10-52D6= Dispute involving a family 10-22V2= Larceny of a vehicle outside

There is a 3 page list of all the codes available to any officer who would like to see it on dept computers but its not necessary for cops to know them by heart as the call is also translated to words, and officers do not enter calls into ICAD only dispatchers do.

I'm also hearing lingo changes, housing units coming over as "housing Charlie" instead of the car number that used to only begin with "9" Anybody else noticing this?

10Y3 is a catchall. It's for anything they don't know how to code otherwise or where no other code applies.
