Not sure if this is a newer term they have started using but I can't recall hearing it in the past. What does "four by" mean? I think that's what the dispatcher is saying sometimes when they call a unit.

That refers to the units' shift Four By Twelve (4x12) Meaning that they came on or go on duty at 4 PM and come off duty at 12 PM Midnight.

The dispatcher is referring to the 4x12 tour units.
