Guys,

Do any of you know why the portables & mobiles being used by the NYPD appear to cut off the MDC burst at what sounds like the half-way point?

Is that the radios doing this, or the repeaters that are cutting off the burst?

Guys,

Thanks for the quick replies! I wonder if my XTS can do the other-half of the equation & block it out completely (I used to know how to set this up in the Jedi-family of radios, but the XTS CPS is still somewhat confusing to me!).

I believe that you can do DOS muting on an XTS, whether or not it will filter half of an MDC burst I don't know. Program the radio with the freqs and DOS and give it a shot!

I know the XTS2500s will almost completely filter it out, not sure about the others, havent personally tried it. In astro25 CPS its under conventional -->MDC System --> System x

Make sure you have the channel personality associated with the correct MDC system also

If you are using a Quantar repeater, there is a feature called "audio hold-off," which mutes all audio passing to the transmitter for a preset time. It is meant to allow the MDC packet to go to the console, but not be heard on the other side. When the feature is enabled, it is triggered by the detection in the repeater's receiver module of an MDC packet. You can tweak to hold-off time so as to "blank" the packet's sound but not cut-off voice following it.

This feature works best when the MDC is before the voice rather than after.
