I was discussing with a friend of mine (who lives in NYC) the reputation that the NYPD has in reference to extremely low pay scales.

I remember seeing somewhere in this forum a sarcasric acronym of NYPD and something related to pay.

Although this might not be a particularly tasteful question, I am in NO WAY ridiculing the efficiency. professionalism, or any other aspect of the NYPD.

Please re-read that last sentence again.

Thanks

I noticed that NYPD cars have "Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect" on their doors, which of course can be appreviated CPR.

CPR is what you might need if you don't treat NYPD officers with courtesy, professionalism, or respect. VBG!

I musy say that the NYPD officers do a wonderful job. Now in regards to their pay. I do not know how much they are paid but in my opinion if you dont like what you are getting payed then go find a new job where you do get paid what you would like to be payed, dont ***** about it, that most likely will get you no where.

Just my thoughts.

Who said anything about cops *****ing? NYC Police Officers are seeking a fair contract. NYC Police Officers are paid a lot less then other surronding departments. There is no *****ing. The city loves to talk about the record drop in crime. Well that record drop in crime did not come free, it came from the dedication and hard work of Police Officers employed by the City of New York.

Like you said you dont know much about the pay of NYC Police Officers...it is not just a matter of "finding a new job" not everyone is 20 years old with a few bills, most members have families and bills to pay and just cant "find a new job" and all they are asking for is a fair and balanced wage increase.

Everyone is simply looking to get payed their fair share. And by the way the person who started this post was referring to the NYSP officers complaining about their pay wage, which is *****ing about it, so back off pal I did not start this post the other person did. As far as your comments go, if someone needs to have a job that pays them enough to pay the bills and put food on the table and they are an NYPD officer that is not getting paid enough go get another job to make better money to pay the bills and put food on your family's table. I'am not saying that the NYPD officers dont do a great job, THEY DO and I never wrote any different. My main thing is everyone is looking for a pay raise even you my friend, so if you dont like or are unhappy with your pay at your current job. LEAVE.

They complain ("*****") constantly, about needing a second job just to make ends meet, how they only take home $350 a week, yada yada yada. My question has always been........you didn't know what the pay was when you took the job? City cops leave the NYPD and go to other jobs such as Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as the Port Authority all the time. And they act like they are the only ones with families and bills. Live within your means and it's not as hard as you think, but they buy $600,000 houses on Long Island with a $3000 a month mortgage, the wives don't work, the kids go to private school...

January 2006 or after:

Police Academy (first six months): $25,100 (Annualized)
Upon completion of six months: $32,700
Upon completion of 1 ½ years: $34,000
Upon completion of 2 ½ years: $38,000
Upon completion of 3 ½ years: $41,500
Upon completion of 4 ½ years: $44,100
Upon completion of 5 ½ years: $59,588

* These salaries do not include overtime earnings, night-shift differential, holiday pay and uniform allowance.

I'm sure lots of families live on $60,000 a year (I know plenty). Not saying they don't work hard and shouldn't get a raise, but they act like they're working for minimum wage. As for me, when I joined my job, I took a $12 an hour pay cut, and I survived just fine. As for those who complain about the starting salary, it's for 6 months, then you get a $7600 raise upon graduation.

If they all did that we wouldn't have anyone to take the job...

the original post said nothing about NYSP but NYPD. and back off.....? huh . did i threaten you in any way? i stated an opinion. thats all. no threats. i thought the point of the forums was to share information.... you live in upstate NY i live and work in downstate NY. i have no idea what the problems/gripes your local police have... dont act like you know all about the problems of the NYPD.

and yes everyone is looking to get paid there fair share i agree... all that the PBA is asking for are cost of living increases. period.

as a condition of employment to be a NYC Police Officer, you must live in the 5 borough's or Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, and Orange Counties. is it the fault of Police Officers that the price of homes is that high? how many jobs in the public or private sector tell there employee's when and where they can live? not many.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the TAVERN. There's a lot to be said about the subject, but I fail to see anything RADIO related. Good topic - wrong board.

Oh I'm sorry I did not know that just because you lived further downstate then me that makes you a wiz kid about the NYPD.

Oh and by the way about an employer telling there staff where to work, yeah that happened to me. It's called being in the USAF.

No, just don't buy something you can't afford. If you make $60,000 a year and think you can afford a $3000 a month mortgage, you need a reality check. I make substantially more than NYPD (almost double) and I couldn't afford it. Isn't that what's going on with the mortgage crisis? People bought homes they couldn't afford and are now paying the price. And what's wrong with renting? I grew up in an apartment. My parents never owned a home. I rented until I had saved enough for a downpayment and was in a position financially to purchase the home I'm in now. It's a radical concept, I know.

Philadelphia Police top pay: $53,444
Chicago Police top pay: $58,896

I'm sure it's expensive to live in those cities too. And they don't get a choice of 11 counties, they are required to live IN the city limits. Visit their websites if you don't believe me.

And what about these guys: http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/community/ems_salary_benefits_042607.shtml $39,000 after 5 years.
I don't hear them complain about crappy pay, they just complain about working conditions and being treated like a stepchild by the FDNY.
If you want a six figure salary, seek another job or vote Pat Lynch out of office and get a PBA president who can get you a decent raise as other unions in the city have gotten. You took the job knowing what the pay was. Learn to live within your means.
