OAKLAND -- Police Department radio communications once again were disrupted Thursday morning by a technical problem that prevented officers in the field from talking to one another or dispatchers.

Additionally, and apparently for the first time, Fire Department communications also were hampered.

Oakland police radio communications disrupted again - San Jose Mercury News

From the article: "The city is planning a switch to a new system called Platform 25 by late summer". Well, at least they got the first letter right.

Just this morning, at 11:35AM, Oakland Fire Eng 2257 was having radio problems, could not talk to other engines, or dispatch. Another engine had to relay his traffic. This was the first time I experienced the radio trouble first hand.

This also happened while they were responding to a overturned vehicle on EB580 at 98th ave.

Per KTVU News this morning is was some kind of hardware issue. A relay went south.

Oh, me thinks the mercury New was just quoting the Mayor who misstated the new technology as Platform instead of Project. Them in political office have oh so much to learn you know.
