Greetings folks, we will be heading to this airshow in a few weeks and was looking for some advice regarding freq's, or just good to know info regarding this show. I imagine it is fairly large, any input from folks with experience would be greatly appreciated. We are coming down on the Friday and leaving on the Monday. Will be bringing a BCD996T along with a few BCT72's.

Hello Wheeler, I will be working the Air Show again this year. (Naval Security Force Reserve). This show is a premier event at the Master Jet Base, and we are expecting a huge turn out, unlike last year (weather). We are allowing Scanners again this year, I've also tried to educate as many gate sentries as I could on what a scanner looks like an it's purpose. So there shouldn't be any problem. Home :: Oceana Air Show
As far as Freq's are concerned I have never brought my own scanner to an air show, though I am this year. Here are the Freq's for Oceana Oceana Naval Air Station Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference. If these don't work for you, there are usually some folks there with pretty huge scanner setups. Looks as if they brought there shack from home and transplanted it on the TARMAC. I'm sure they know all the Freq's. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the welcome, we are staying at a local RV park within a mile or two of the base. I will input the RR freqs and then nose around the spectrum to try and locate any discreet freq's etc. Glad to hear that scanners are not looked upon in the same way as weapons of mass destruction (lol). We bought seats in the reseerved section but may just end up wandering around and plopping our buts whereever seems appropriate. Pretty excited about this airshow, its the biggest one i have ever been to.

We will be staying at "Trav-L Park" I believe it is on General Booth and quite close to the field, people who leave reviews on the web site say it is a really nice park but too many jets fly over and disturb the quiet of the park.......yeah, i love that idea...
Good lists of freq's......thanks very much guys

Oceana NAS Air Show is one of my favorites. (we won't talk about last year!) Glad they moved the date back where it belongs and hopefully, good weather will prevail. I am doing the usual and arriving late Tuesday. I trailer my Harley-Davidson and ride while I'm in town. I usually end up at the end of the runway and just sit there listening to the comings and goings of the aircraft. I have all the frequencies that have worked in recent years so if you happen to see a guy on a red Harley full bagger, stop and say hi. We can trade frequencies or maybe head down to the corner to BoneShakers. It's a resteraunt/bar which usually fills up with motorcycles. All a good sort. Not a rough bikers bar. ( I wouldn't last two seconds!) It's got a porch with shade and cold beer! What could be better? Have a couple of quiet ones, listen to the scanner, and forget where the hell you were supposed to be and are not. That's what I'm talkin about.

Name is Bill, red Firefighters Special Edition Ultra Classic H-D, Uniden remote head mounted on the handlebar with a scanner in the travel pack. Also into amateur radio (Ham). It better not rain. Any responses should go to my email address as I don't get over here as much as I would like to.

That list looks old - the comm cart freqs are a dead giveaway - they've been heard for at least 2 years in the 138-141 mhz area...

This PDF file is a far better resource -

Monitoring the Air Show Experience (MT)

Mike, the last airshow I was at with the Blue Angels, Millville NJ about4-5 years ago, the air toground and aircraft to aircraft comm was UHF only. I don't remember the frequency though but I would think with a good handheld scanner you can find it real quick.
