Anyone know if O'Fallon MO or St.Peters MO is going to go digital anytime within the near future? I am new to the hobby and am debating wether or not to purchase a digital scanner.

I'm not sure, but that would be something good to know.
St. Charles is testing digital (I just read on the net that they did switch).
Wentzville is digital. I bet they will.

I wish I had waited to buy my scanner now...at the time...I just bought it so I could use it at the NASCAR races I go to and now, I like listening to other stuff as well. I'm in St. Charles, and I can't even hear the PD because my scanner isn't digital.

I guess I will wait a few more months. Maybe the cost of digital scanners will go down.

Digital

St. Charles city and county are now switched to digital and St. Peters and O'fallon are currently on analog. But St. Perers is type II trunking and O'fallon is conventional but are looking into switching.

Wentzville NOT DIGITAL

Wentzville, MO is not digital they are on 154.860 and run analog. Just to clear things up. O'fallon however is still and has been on 800MHZ and has been using this band for 15 years. They do however use or "try" to use MDT, however have had problems with the MDT system sense they have instaled the system. Being that they have installed the MDT system, its very unlikey they will switch to digital, its very costly for one and two they are planning on hiring 100 or more new officers by the end of 2005.

At the time I posted that Wentzville is Digital, that was from what the
Radio Shack Manager told me, but I've been able to pick them up on
that frequency too. I forgot to repost stating this.

I work for O'Fallon and we are on 800 (conventional). Where did you get the info about us hiring 100 new officers? It is no secret we have expanded a bunch in the last 5-10 years but are only hiring about a handful of new police officers for '05. Currently, we have 103 commissioned officers so it will take us to about 108 total.

Whoever said Wentzville was Digital may have just been trying to get you to buy Digital scanner. As far as I know they are not.

TRS is for trunking radio sytem. The PRO-82 does not support frequencies any higher than 512 mhz. The PRO-82 also is not digital. St.Peters and O'Fallon are in the 800mhz band which is not supported by the PRO-82. St. Charles County is conventional digital. St. Charles City is Trunked digital. These are also not supported by the PRO-82.

For the money a PRO-97 is a nice scanner you could use for O'Fallon and St. Peters. You would still not be able to hear St. Charles County or St. Charles City. For these you would need the PRO-96 or PRO-2096. They are $$$$, but a closing RS store might have one for about $300.

Good Luck

A possible alternative!

Somebody used to sell a 800mhz converter that you put on the antenna connection.

Never used one, so I don't even know if they worked.

Might have been MFJ. Not sure.

I think they were like $50. This still would not help with the digital part.

GRE sold them. If I remember correctly they originally appered in the late 80's or early 90's. I think it was part of their Super Antenna line.

Max...

Back when Dinosaurs roamed the earth, there were some of us
that would take a UHF TV tuner, and use the output to a scanner, which
was 45 mhz or so... (Fuzzy memory) You could listen to 10 or more cell
conversations at a time using the tuner in the upper UHF channels. 69 to
83 covered the 800 Mhz band, with wideband coverage....

You are right! I couldn't remember who it was.

Around the time the PRO-2006's were selling for $400 I think. <--- My third scanner.
