Denver Officer Injured in Crash

POSTED: 12:31 am MDT September 3, 2007

Denver Police officer injured in a Traffic accident at west 18th Avenue and Federal Blvd., late Saturday night.

Traffic was shut down on 6th avenue at federal for about 10 minutes, so ambulances would have a clear shot to the hospital.

Police are still investigating the scene.

Good news...

Heard unoffical but very reliable news that the officer is going to be OK. Some broken bones but nothing life-threatening. His police car, however, is toast. It took some time to extracate him as the vehicle was on it's roof.

Saw about 20 DPD officers hovering around the Emergency entrance to DHMC waiting for word...

Official Info

From Sonny Jackson, DPD PIO, in a nutshell:

Officer was NB on Federal en route to a call with lights and siren active when an elderly woman driver, suffering from some kind of medical problem, drove across Federal and hit the crusier in the rear as it was passing. The police car rolled several times...

Per an ICall to dispatch last night, the officer had a tib/fib, femur, and hip fracture, as well as some small head lacs. It took FD 15 minutes to extracate.
