To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking into getting a Ohio MARCs pager through Unication. What model do you guys recommend for me to monitor our paging channel, central FD dispatch talk channel, and our fire ground OPs? Would the G4 be an ok option for me? And these pagers "alert" when a certain tone is dispatched? Looking to use this for daily dispatching alerts, and FD monitoring.

Can you add other channels if I wanted to scan say OSP?
Thanks for any input.

The G4 will work if you only need to monitor MARCS-IP and 700/800 MHz. If your local department does paging over VHF/UHF or has any fire ground channels on those bands, then you will need to consider a G5 with the appropriate secondary band needed for paging.

Something to keep in mind if you are planning to use it as a pager for alerting is that scanning other talkgroups will decrease the pager's ability to alert on a call. If you are in a position where you need the pager to alert you to respond, then it would be advisable to program your paging channels by themselves so that it will properly alert you of a call. Tones over P25 can work, but there have been a few reports on these forums of tones over P25 not working with their Unication pagers.

I use a G4 for monitoring Ohio MARCS-IP. It works very well for me monitoring LE, including OSP. I can't speak for FD or any thing with tones.
