Could someone please tell me the trunked frequencies for the Oklahoma City area? I entered the frequencies found on this website but am having trouble picking up anything. At best, I just get partial converstations. I'm using a Radio Shack Pro-94. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Which site are you programming into your scanner? I assume you are talking about the OKC freqs for the state smartzone system. If that is the case, as long as you are entering the freqs into your scanner while in trunk mode there should not be any problem. It is a motorola system and the frequencies can be entered in any order. Check your manual to make sure you are doing this correctly. Give a shout if it is still not working and maybe myself or someone else can get you through it.

I am wanting to listen mainly to the police, fire and highway patrol frequencies. I entered:

856-860.2125
856-860.2375
856-860.2625
856-860.4375
856-860.4875
856-860.7125
856-860.9875
856-860.7625
866.5375
866.9250
867.4000
867.7500
868.1750
868.5500

All I see is - - - - - on my screen. But I'm not hearing anything. Please tell me if these are the correct frequencies. Thank you.

That sure is a lot of freqs. There are 2 sites listed for OKC in the database section of this website. These are used by the state police. My suggestion is that you program these into 2 separate banks in your scanner and look for the talkgroups for OHP troop A, plus any other talkgroups that are listed for OKC. However, you will not hear OKC police or fire as they are not on a trunked system. They still use conventional systems, for now. Rumour has it that they are going to an EDACS system in the future.

OKC trunked radio

It's definitely true that OKC will go Ericsson trunked. You can find more information at the City of OKC's website under public safety.

Near OKC, Edmond, Norman, and Shawnee have trunked systems. Cleveland County SO has a few talkgroups on the OK Smartzone repeater in Norman.

You may want to visit Matt Englebrecht's Yahoo! Group ( http://groups.yahoo.com ) and see the resources available for OKC trunked scanning. Unfortunately, I forget the exact name of the group, but a search at the above URL will give the link.

It's important to obtain a copy of the TGs that interest you, so you can lock out agencies in which you have no interest (e.g., sewer plant, city admin., etc.)

Thank you for your replies. Below I have some of the frequencies I put into my scanner. Can anyone please tell me how I can find out what these are? I'd appreciate any help. I still don't fully understand trunking very well. Thank you again.

Hello
I have never heard anything on those 42.600 mhz freqs. I figured they were just licensed for possible future use years ago. Anyone know any different? Ken

Ken,I think they use 42.60 as a HQ frequency but I think that was quite sometime ago.
Hope this answers your question!

My understanding is that when the OHP first started using radios after WW2, they were assigned 42.60MHz and 42.32MHz. When the system was expanded to two pairs of Low Band frequencies, they moved to 44MHz to get away from interference (no small task on Low Band VHF).

The licenses have been kept current and there supposedly has been some use over the years. I was told some time ago that they used the pair for the drivers license examiners. This was before examiners were considered troopers.

Personally, I have been monitoring public safety in the Oklahoma City area for more than 25 years and I cannot remember hearing ANY trnsmissions on these frequencies that I could verify was not skip coming from out of state.

I always wondered about 42.6
I lived in Wichita Falls for over 10 years and could hear Lawton all the time and Altus and Durant most of the time and never heard any of them
on 42.6. I did hear plenty of other states when the band was open.

Does Oklahoma County still use 37.26?

Nope. Still licensed for it but the sheriff cars don't have a low-band radio in them. There's a bunch of agencies here in central Oklahoma hanging onto low-band licenses, and not using them...

Speaking of 37.26MHz,
I see Mayes County has a license on that frequency for their County Commissioners.
Does anyone konw if they actually use it?

I wonder how many agencies still have their lowband licenses simply because somebody in the city or county renews all the licenses in bulk, and nobody has ever thought to check if they are still being used.

On the other side of the coin, recently one of the county commissioners here in Payne County allowed ALL the county radio licenses to lapse. I'm told her attitude was "Everybody has cellphones, we don't need these (radio licenses) anymore." This included the Sheriff's Office and the county emergency management, as will as the county road crews and commissioner's licenses. I understand that the SO got a special waiver from the FCC to continue operating, and all the county's emergency management licenses have been taken over by the city, but all had to have new licenses and callsigns issued.
