Hi All, I noticed that the Mass. State Police have active licenses for 39.76, 39.80 and 39.58.
Does anyone know if they are actually used?

Thanks, Chris

I've not heard much on them in many years, some were re-allocated for Western Mass
but those agencies are moving [Franklin Cnty] to the states 700/800 TRS [both Analog and P25 Phase I/II]

Sometimes licenses just get renewed, no cost to them :)

Speaking of Low Band anyone hear any chit-chat on the ole Environmental PD Low Bands ??

MSP still do use the 42/44 channels :)

Thanks for the info. I just bought a low band mobile and I am looking for something to listen to.
I will put the State PD channels in it. I will put the State and Federal Environmental PD frequencies in the radio.
Any other low band suggestions? I am in the Brockton area. Some school buses around here use 47mhz.

Are any of the old fire department frequencies in use? Such as 33.50, 33.54, 33.70 and 33.90?

The State Police For Troop D use 42.460 as a car to car along with 42.54 and 42.50... Heard 42.46 used as a speed trap in Avon on 24 a week ago.
The DOT for Zone 5 uses 47.28 But I Heard the HOC in Boston on the air the other day and thought they are putting out 50-100Watts for me to pick them up.
Falmouth and Mashpee still use Low Band for Fire Dispatch.
There is still activity out there SE MA.

There is 3 Environmental Police Low Band Frequencies 31.42 31.46 and 31.5 Cant remember but 1 is Base to Car , The other is Car to Base
and the 3rd is Car to Car... Ive only heard Car to Car Out here in New Bedford Mainly because we have Fishing Boats in the Harbor and the
Environmental Police chasing ATVers.

There used like Taxi Cab Frequencies Up Comm and Down Comm they don't talk on one frequency only.

This used to be referred to as "half duplex." The MDC Police used it into the late 1970s with 39.58 being the base and 39.66 the mobile. Then they turned it into a repeated system with the same frequencies. That could be entertaining as before they put PL, Channel Guard on a system down south on 39.66 would get into the repeater.

The LA County Sheriff used a similar low band system and put a helpful beep on the output when someone was talking in on the mobile frequency. Oddly enough, when they went to a UHF T system, they did the same thing. AFAIK, to this day the mobile audio is not repeated.

The NYS Thruway is repeated, but the rest is as you describe. Upstate they seem to use local departments radio systems as well.
