• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I seem to remember that old AM BC radios had some sort of receiver built in to turn them off after a a Civil Defense transmission ended.I also seem to remember it was so the enemy would not be able to hone in on their signals.

i remember as a kid seeing the CD spots on the radio but never heard of a turn off circuit.
i has my hands in many a radio
if you mean to home in on the I.F. then they would be about 20-30 feet away and that would be way too close!

I know which is why it was discontinued. It might have been on CD radios only but I'll see if I can find it again.

oh

i got ya the transmitter shut down
they played the shell game
if you tried to get a fix on the transmitter you could pinpoint where everything was (pre gps)
i think it would have been better to get everyone to stay on and on the same frequency (too late)
