• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Was doing the usual browsing and looks like old LAPD all banders before they decided to go APX 8000s, which ended up from them handed off to Morgan's resort fire department and now to auction.

Wasn't aware they used the Unity but was aware they had eyes on the APX line and mostly used Motorola.

I'd have thrown this in the California section but since they'd be defunct department equipment and Harris I put it here. If a admin feels it's better in California they feel free to move it there.

Thought it be something a radio enthusiast would like to look at and read the description on its use history in first part.

Like disaster guy had mentioned somewhere in the 500 to 700 range. I belive their programmer will do numerous Harris radios but I may be wrong.

For programming software a single license covers ProGrammer (Orion, 700p and older radios), RPM (P5100, P/M7100, P/M7200, P7300, XG-100p) and RPM2 that covers all XG and XL radios. I believe that the full package is around $900 or so. There used to be a conventional only option for around $350 but I dont know if that's still offered or not.

That's what I thought close to grand for the full deal with them. I have heard depending on contracts 500 to 700 depending who you are and your agency is and if your a top dog customer.

There is some truth to that. The prices I through out are list. A standard contract discount is 25%, some are more aggressive. Some include discounts on "software services" items and some dont.

To me it isnt that expensive considering that I use it to program several million dollar worth of radios. With that said, as I mentioned above, I actually spend less on Harris Software than Motorola software due to the Harris license covering programming of every radio made over the last 30+ years compared to multiple $350 licenses on the Motorola side.

Why is the Harris software so expensive?

Could be worse, running several types of a Motorola and having to cough out 350 plus per radio model for programming.

In the end it seems more practical to pay once and be done with it for various models of one brand.

Motorola essentially gives you a site license: one subscription to APX CPS and you can legally install and use it on a thousand machines in your organization. APX CPS also programs all APX radios, from low tier portables (APX900) to APX8000/8500. Of course this may change in the near future, but the current business model is very affordable for what one gets.
