I have noticed Schoharie county has started using "Omega response" when the situation dictates. Would I be correct in assuming this is the same as Alpha response?

On a different note, something that was discussed before and I was sort of shot down as I couldnt have heard it right......well I heard it again on Montgomery County Sheriff's freq.
and that is a "sympathy hit".

I checked with someone again about this but it was a non Mont. County law enforcement person and he said it in fact has various meanings depending on the agency using it.
He said the most popular use would be like this:

another agency is looking for a white male named John Doe who has a DOB of Sept 1 1980. He has blonde hair, tattoos and is 6' 6" tall weighing about 250 LBS.

When they run this other guy they have stopped (who is also named John Doe) with the same or similar date of birth they have a hit on a possible wanted person. But then, as they look further, this guy stopped is 5'5 and ways 130 LBS. and is not the person wanted.

The guy I spoke to (NJ) said that is what is often known as a sympathy hit or a "sympathetic". Only agency in NY I have ever heard using it is Mont Co. But I do not know if their definition is the same. Any ideas?

An Omega Response is a non-emergency response for assistance, not requiring transport.

I'm not even going to touch the "OMEGA" response, as I am in no way familiar with that.

However, regarding the "sympathetic", or more common "similar" hit goes like this:

Say Paramus Police enters a Jonathan Doe with a DOB of 1-1-1981, height 6'2", weight 175 pounds, SSN 123-45-6789...

Eventually, Teaneck Police (or even Yonkers PD, as it works out of state also), runs a Peter Smith with a DOB of 1-1-1981, height 5'8", weight 250, SSN 987-65-4321 and headquarters needs to check into why there is "hit" or "alert" showing. Upon checking further, it is realized that this "hit" is a "DOB HIT" and solely a hit on the birth date. This will only hit on similar names, aliases, birth dates, and/or SSN's (social security numbers).

Now check this out!!!... I ran a plate for one of my cops recently and it came back with a "KNOWN GANG MEMBER Hit". In checking further, as in literally scrolling down, there was no reason to think this was a gang member. This was strictly a hit because the guy's last name was "Gangemi". Our computer system (INFOCOP) hit on the portion of his last name. This systems is very sensitive with this and similar entries. It will also hit on "stolen" etc even if the person has a warning entered for "receiving stolen property"... not necessarily meaning the car or plates were stolen.

Hope this helps.....

that is a HUGE help. thank you. the only agency I seem to hear use it in upstate NY is Mont Co. The guy in NJ bascially explained it to me, but you did a much better job of putting it into an example. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving!

I'd be tempted to think there is more of a problem with black or Latino names and DOB's than for others. A guy I know wrote that when the London police were stopping and checking out people who might be Real IRA supporters it came as quite a surprise to him how many Real IRA supporters were black.

Absolutely... as in "JUAN RAMIREZ", or "BOBBY BROWN"........... but just as easily for "JOHN SMITH"
